Monopoly tokens, that is.
It looks like any and/or all of the standard Monopoly tokens could be taken off the board(so to speak), depending on how the votes go. Some of the possible replacements are a rubber ducky, sunglasses, a typewriter, a computer…and a hashtag??
The thimble isn’t even an option.
It’s all politics, man.
You know that the original game didn’t even come with tokens at all, and just encouraged players to use whatever they had lying around the house. That’s the origin of the original set: Such improvised tokens were likely to include a thimble et al.
The thimble is there. It’s hidden behind the counter on the silver page on my screen.
Thimble politics is the worst.
Oh sweet. A T-Rex, a monster truck and a Jet Ski.
You should have heard the bitching the first time I put a wheelbarrow on the board. But who’s laughing now?
Wheelbarrow? That was nothing. When I put my race car on the board, I accidentally crushed the Scottish terrier.
R.I.P. Scotty
This is just Hasbro’s way of getting attention for themselves, of course.
I’ve never seen a Monopoly game that didn’t end with hurt feelings.
I’ll die if they take away the dog or the wheelbarrow.
I just voted. My only three choices were the dog, wheelbarrow, and horse.
Didn’t there use to be token of a man on a bucking horse?
Or the battleship.
Thanks for pointing that out. I am voting again. Who cares if none of the choices are the same?
What strikes me about the options is how many are hilariously dated – either obsolete technology (rotary-dial phones, typewriters, pocket watches) or fashion (boots/flip-flops, even the iconic top hat) which are susceptible to becoming dated. Other than the animals, the rest seem to be emoticons and the hashtag – also at risk of going out of style.
I went with four classics (Thimble, Dog, Race car, Wheelbarrow), three new antiques that I thought fit the theme (Victrola, Rotary Phone, Sailboat) and then the Penguin because who doesn’t want to be a penguin?
Edit: Also, as soon as you vote it says “Vote Again!” so I guess you can spend all day at this. Ultimately, we’ll have whatever eight tokens 4Chan decided we should have.
What the heck is a “city boat”? Is that a common term? For some reason, I rarely see boats driving around my city.
I voted penguin, horse, pocket watch, winky smiley, motorcycle, bow tie, clunky cell phone, new car.
I’ve never seen a Monopoly game end.
We usually just got bored and wandered away, or someone started arguing about Free Parking, flipped the board and started a free-for-all.
Seriously, when was the last time you saw someone playing Monopoly?
Monopoly is a part of Western culture, despite being a game that no one has an interest in playing - once they have tried it for the first time.
Agree with G0spel - I’ve never seen a game end - it just withers away and people get on with more productive things in their life - like cleaning ear-wax or weighing the cat.
But anyway, anyone who doesn’t include the dog in their list of ‘Tokens to be kept’ should be immediately expelled from the human race - thinking back, the most interesting part of playing Monopoly was the argument/fight/tantrum over who was going to be the dog.
I just assume it’s one of those settlements from the film Waterworld.
