It’s not that the Eagles in general or “Hotel California” in particular are bland, it’s that we’ve heard them so much that they’re too familiar.
I think that’s the case with a lot of these “hated” bands/artists: popularity leads to overexposure leads to hatred. The difference between liking songs or artists and hating them can often just be whether you’ve heard them more times than you’d want to.
