Rock bands you hate . . .and you're the only one on the planet that hates them

I don’t get Tool. Their “Lateralus” went #1, and all my friends rave about them. As a matter of fact, my one buddy sez “Undertow” is the best CD he’s ever heard.

I’m a metalhead from way back, and I’ve borrowed and listened to their first 2 CDs over an over again thinking maybe I’m the problem . . . . but I’m sorry: Tool SUCKS!!!

Yet, apparently I’m the only one on Earth that thinks so. :frowning:

How about you? Is there a band out there that everyone else seems to be into, yet you hate?

(By the way, to keep it sane, let’s keep it specific- this isn’t a “I hate country music” thread)

I have always loved Tool’s videos, but, after listening to all three of their CDs a couple times apiece, I realized that they’re not all that special. I still like it, but I do understand how you might not.

The band that I hate that everyone else seems to love is Blink 182. I like punk music. I HATE Blink 182! Sure, their videos are pretty funny, but their music really sucks.

Well, a while back we did a thread with more of a “canon of classic rock” bent, as in “Bands you know you should like but don’t.” If I wanted to rehash the classics, I’d have to say that I don’t like The Doors, The Eagles, or Steely Dan. Prior to that thread, I thought I was the only one in the solar system who felt that way…

But as for today’s bands? Hmmmm. I think the bands that bug me are the same ones that bug at least SOME other people, so I guess I can’t name any.

Except…regrettably, I do have to say that listening to a lot of Blue Traveler at the Dopefest reminded me that I don’t dig them much. Maybe because I loathe the public personality of their lead singer. I never liked Counting Crows much either.

OHMIGOD! That’s like my favorite band in the world. I’d have to say that I never got into REM. I always thought they sucked major ass. They had two good songs: ITEOTWAWKI (AIFF) and Losing My Religion.

The Dave Matthews Band.

I just tun the radio off for 5 minutes every time I hear it.

Who don’t I like: The Beatles. Now before you get the tar and feathers, let me explain myself. They are overplayed and over-adulated (is that a word?). I am SOOOOOO tired of hearing “The Beatles are still the best thing since canned beer.” Feh. Enough already. Yeah, they changed the music scene. Hooray. Now get over it.

Also: Guns-N-Roses. I’m a child of the 80’s and I cannot stand GNRs. Go ahead, throw the tomatos. I stand unrepentant.

AC/DC. I can’t stand them at all. Sure, they play hard rock. But their lyrics are stupid, and the lead singer’s voice makes me want to tear my eyes out.

BunnyGirl, I am totally with you. I’ve only admitted that to two people before, and both times barely restrained them from organizing a lynch mob for me. But there you have it.

I can’t stand Rod Stewart, either.

I’m with Bunny and Beadalin, the Beatles were okay, but come on…bleh.

My biggest “Super Group” dislike, though, is the Doors (good call, Cranky)

Say, Chum, if you don’t care for the latest Tool album, I’ll buy it off a’ya (there aren’t any used CD stores 'round here.)

I’ll second Dave Matthews, even though the fact that two of us think he and his band suck disqualifies him from contention. God, that band is boring.

Oh, and strangely enough, ultrafilter, AC/DC makes me want to tear your eyes out too. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok, here it goes: The Rolling Stones are the most over-rated band in history! They are mediocre musicians at best, write stupid, unimaginative songs,and Mick Jagger has the most irritating voice I can think of.
To compound matters, they have overstayed their welcome by at least 2 decades. They have become parodies of themselves. After years of abusing drugs, and living the rock and roll lifestyle, they make me wonder…How can corpses play instruments?
Go ahead, slam me without mercy, but I HATE THE STONES AND WISH THEY WOULD GO AWAY!!!

There are 4 bands that I’ve been wishing the public at large would get their collective heads out of their asses, and admit they suck horribly.

When their first album arrived at my college radio station at the same time as Psychedelic Furs, I put Pretty In Pink on heavy rotation and U2’s Gloria in Christian Rock. Long live radio without anaesthesia!

Vinnie, Tool was the band I was thinking about when I opened this thread.
Other bands I can’t stand that everyone I know likes include Dave Mathews, Sting, Annie Lennox/Eurithics (sp?) and my personal satan-spawned hell bands - Rod Steward and The Scorpions.
