Anyone had their thread been noticed by “Threadspotting”? What’s it like?
Never mind “Threadspotted” – this thread hasn’t even been plain old spotted.
My Pit rant on The Box of Random Evil was named for Threadspotting by Lynn Bodoni.
I was thrilled.
Since that OP was written, I’ve moved to another office in that hospital just down the hall from the infernal machine, so I no longer must deal with its lurking presence outside my door.
I’ve been transferred from paranoid to triploid. I don’t think it’s a good thing.
No- mostly plain solid color with the occasional stripe.
IIRC, two of my threads have been put into Threadspotting.
I just looked at the Search Engine, and I cannot see how to look to link them into here. Hmmm… and I do not remember what they were. But, I was linked to both of them by my best friend, who found them before I did.
Cartooniverse
It felt like I arrived.
3 (I think)
I rarely look at the front page, so I found out by someone pointing it out to me, either in the thread or e-mail. Two were Trek related, the other was some IMHO thread (I think)
It’s pretty darn hard to do a search on this because the ThreadSpotting teaser isn’t always that clear.
I’ve had more success with nominating other’s threads. I think I’m probably close to 10 or so of those, but again, I wouldn’t know how to check.
Obviously, this is just a 1920s-style death ray.
I got in for “I have my own ugly naked guy” or It’s an ugly naked day in the neighborhood.
As far as I know, that’s the only one I’ve had in threadspotting.
I had a thread titled “Murphy’s Laws of the SDMB” on Threadspotting once. For some reason it didn’t turn up when I tried to search for it.
Nope, all my threads (all half-dozen or so) have died quick painful (although probably well deserved) deaths, sinking unmercifully to the depths of the hamster cage.
sigh but I can still dream (and I’ve paid my $4.95 so I can still post )
Take care,
GES
Can anyone fight my ignorance? What’s threadspotting?
Foei! You should know!
If you go to the Straight Dope Homepage, where incidentally you can also find Cecil’s column, you will notice a line saying ‘Threadspotting’. It links to a thread that is particularly noteworthy (often amusing). Once every while TubaDiva (or is it Lynn) changes it to a new one. You can nominate threads by e-mailing suggestions.
hehehe, Thanks, Tusculan. Neem me nie kwalijk.
Two of mine, as far as I know, have been spotted:
Left-handedness - what should we think?
Fun and games with Mr Austin Wemba
What is it like? The first thing was that the thread views counter went bananas, then the thread got a bit more posting traffic than might otherwise be expected. It is somewhat satisfying, not the least reason being that it attracts good contributions from other members.
Hey all - thanks for chiming in! I had one – “Puzzle - ordering of US States” – which to date has received 186 posts and 12,795 views… seems to confirm what others said about views count spiking.
The reason I thought of this is that I recently went back and searched on all the old threads I had either posted in or started. It’s fun seeing stuff you said awhile back. Most of my threads were admittedly pretty lame and received an appropriately thorough ignoring.
And btw - Mangetout - I’m sure you’ve heard it all before, but I just want to go on record as saying that was one of the best threads in a long time – the sheer humour of it, combined with the fun of sticking it to a bad guy, layered with the suspense and mystery of watching the story unfold in real-time, was just fantastic.
The third thread I started got spotted, and I felt ever so proud!
Then I found out that a LOT of people hate the game threads, and I felt slightly ashamed.
And now I notice that it’s at the top of the list under the archived Threadspotting. I assume that means it’s about to disappear. sigh
I think two of mine have been spotted:
Tales of the Sweaty, Feculent Herd and Insurance for the Cataclysmically Stupid.
I usually bypass the front page too, so I only found out when someone else told me.
Because you can’t truly be evil without a cool soundtrack and Field and Stream, Jurassic style were both my doing, I’m proud to report.
