Have you ever visited any of those photo rating sites, such as hotornot.com? What did you think of it?? Did your scores agree with everyone else’s??? Did you ever give artificially high scores, out of pity???
I’ve looked at that site and I thought that the scores were rather high. The average score is probably around 7.5. Also, they are not symmetrically distributed, but instead are lopsided, maybe a Weibull distribution. You would expect the most common score to be around 5, followed by equal numbers of 4’s and 6’s, then 3’s and 7’s, etc., but that’s not the case. Maybe people give higher scores than are merited out of sympathy?
What’s interesting is that even though I don’t really agree with the scores, it is very easy for me to predict what they will be. I don’t usually miss by more than a point. It’s also interesting that there are some outrageously high scores there- 9.8, 9.7, etc-even with thousands of scores. In order for someone to get a 9.8, a minimum of 80% of the raters must agree that they deserve a 10! At yet there are still those who insist that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Anyway, I stopped visiting Hotornot.com when I discovered InfatuAsian.com, which has better looking women in my opinion, and the scores are much more objective.
I thought it was a good idea, except I didn’t post a picture when I found out that they remove your photo if you post a URL on it or any text on the image. No point in letting them eat up my bandwidth if I don’t even get to let people know who it’s a picture of.
And yeah, I noticed the ratings were kind of… pointless.
I used to go there a lot about a year ago. It was a good time waster when I couldn’t sleep, but didn’t feel like doing any heavy thinking.
The ratings seemed like an excuse to get you click and keep clicking. But I did notice that women showing cleavage were more likely to get a higher score, regardless of their looks. Maybe there are lots of underage boys (or grown men at work), who can’t get access to porn online for some reason, giving higher scores when they see a nice face or some skin like some kind of Pavlovian dogs.
You may be right about the sympathy thing, personally, I never gave a 1 to anybody unless the link was broken or if an image of a guy appeared (since I was looking at women only). I did think that lots of the 9.5’s and higher that I saw were unwarrented. But I guess the whole site should be considered a big YMMV-zone.
I’ve been there once or twice. I mostly amused myself by giving the people who were trying too hard to be sexy 1s and 2s, and giving the people who would normally get lower scores 10s across the board. It was fun for about ten minutes.
I looked at one of these sites maybe a year ago, and decided that while it’s probably entertaining for people of a certain mentality, I don’t like participating in borderline-abusive mob-oriented activities. Haven’t been back.
I did find that, at least on the site I went to (can’t remember which one), older people, attractive or no, would score very low. It’s like if you were over the age of 30, forget it.
Nope, haven’t, but rate my kitten is pretty cool. . .
except the cute fluffy vapid kittens all get really high scores while the cool and intellegent-looking adult cats are rated poorly. . . it’s always the same, isn’t it?
Maybe the high scores are because the ugly people don’t want to post pictures of their ugly faces on the Internet?
Anyway, I went there once, fooled around a bit, then decided it was boring and kinda dumb. Society places too much emphasis on physical looks. watches the Cliché Alarm™ go off
Once or twice. I always click 10 out of 10 because I feel sorry for the ugly people.
I prefer the Pet hot-or-not? sites. There you cannot fail to give 10/10 for every animal, they are all so lovely. You look at their little faces, and know some person loves them so much they have posted them on the web for all to see, and you cannot help but give top marks to them all.
I find hotornot.com pretty amusing for the fact that, pretty much any girl pictured who is of a “reasonably normal” weight, has blonde hair, and at at least a B cup is guaranteed an 8 or higher. And the bigger the breasts, and the more of them that are showing, the bigger the rating. There could be a picture of the most horse-faced, Elephant-Man-disease ridden person, but if she’s willing to pull the front of her shirt down to highlight her boobs, she gets a higher score. It’s fun to see that people are basically just about as shallow as we might imagine.
Me, I thought some of the over-30 women were pretty damned hot. So were some of the “overweight” ones. Me, I’m into pretty faces.
