Have You Ever...?

Yes-Robert Asprin. I really enjoyed the first few books of his “Myth” series, but the latter books had so little going on that they seemed like interim chapters in an actual story.
Have You Ever been surprised to find a book that you never knew existed beforehand in a series you liked?

Wow, this thread suddenly moved fast!

Yes, Tehanu in Ursula Le Guin’s Earthsea series, which I found quite disappointing, a let-down after the 1st 3.

[Yes. Ballet fan here, saw my first ballet almost 50 years ago. I’ve seen Swan Lake, Giselle, Coppelia, Don Quixote, Romeo and Juliet (Prokofiev’s), Manon Lescaut, The Rite of Spring, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Sleeping Beauty, La Bayadere, probably some more full-lengths, several shorts like Firebird, Afternoon of a Faun, and many Balanchine shorts, like “Jewels” and “Four Temperaments” and others whose titles I’d have to look up.

(I was looking at the thread on best TV episodes and realized that I really don’t watch much TV any more–I had seen none of those shows! Ballet, on the other hand…)]

Have you ever found an item in the store (non-food) and bought it, then found out that you already had one or more at home that you’d forgotten about?

I’ve done that on occasion with Ziploc slider bags. One time, while my parents were college students, they each went to the grocery store by themselves, without a list, and came back with exactly the same things, down to the very brand.

Have you ever found year-old (or older) Christmas or Halloween candy while reorganizing your pantry? (And did you eat it anyway?)

I’ve got some in my freezer right now. Over a year ago, for Halloween. I was giving out novelty Reese’s cups that weighed full half pound per cup. I still have a couple of them left. Once I get my auxiliary pancreas installed, I’ll try to get through them.

Have you ever deliberately insulted someone in a foreign language that you were pretty sure they didn’t speak?

Yes, but it was in jest.

Have you ever purchased a set of encyclopedias?

Yes. Well, Madame P. did. When we were first married (1978) she bought me a set of the Encyclopedia Britannica as a wedding present. I was thrilled.
Have You Ever spent an afternoon or evening in a library doing research?

More times than I can count.

HYE lied about your age to someone who was not a stranger?

No, never had a reason to.

HYE, since turning 18, wished you were a decade older?

God no. Getting older has sucked through and through.

HYE purchased (not just read, but actually purchased) an Old Farmer’s Almanac?

Yes, once, ages ago. I don’t think the Farmer was old yet.

HYE been in a 3(or more)-some?

Yes. Several times, all very nice.

HYE shared something very intimate with a partner and soon regretted it?

Yes. I’m not going to share what was said here, but suffice it to say that regret struck within mere moments of the utterance.

HYE rode in a Checker cab?

Yes if a former Checker cab qualifies. The vehicle in question had served for many years in cab service, was sold at auction and lovingly restored by a family friend. The thing rode like a dream, looked showroom fresh and still retained that distinctive back seat funk that could water the eyes and stir the imagination in disquieting ways.

HYE ever takes a long (1,000+ mile) motorcycle trip?

Just have to chime in to say yes. It was in New York City, back in the 1970s. It was fun to ride in a taxi I’d only ever seen in movies.

Let’s continue with Alpha Twit’s question:

No, I’ve never driven a motorcycle for more than a mile or two at a time. I did take a 3,500+ mile road trip in college. Florida to Arizona and back. Three of us in a little Dodge Dakota. Fun times.

Have you ever seen two oceans in the same day?

Not only that… but I urinated in two oceans in the same day (Atlantic & Pacific).

HYE been to Bryce Canyon?

Yes.

Ever been to Canyon de Chelly?

No, but I’ve been to Canyons Burger.

Have you ever sailed to an island? (motorized boat doesn’t count)

Nope, never even set foot on a sailboat.

Have you traveled to at least three different continents during your life?

Yes, Europe, Africa and S. America, then N. America. I did all four in four days once.

HYE paid an artist to create a new work of art for you.
