Have You Ever...?

Yes, scratched several times by our cat Atticus in his less-friendly moods.

Have you ever met a person named Atticus?

I know equally as many people named ‘Atticus’ as I do ‘Boo’ (which in round numbers is…well, a number with a round shape)

HYE found yourself wanting to take a course in CPR but ultimately not doing so because you didn’t want to put your mouth on some filthy dummy?

Not exactly. I’ve wanted to take a CPR course, but when they’ve been offered just doesn’t fit with my schedule.

Have you ever won a free game at pinball?

Many times but only because the specific pinball game at the Eagles Club to which my parents were members was freakishly generous. Several times, I was able to make a single quarter last well over an hour. This was over 30 years ago though.

Have you ever eaten some canned food (other than fruit) unheated, directly from the can. Open can, grab spoon, go!

Often. Beans during a power failure are an old standby.

HYE attended a beer or wine dinner, with each course served with its paired beer/wine?

Yes. Years ago, I attended a dinner where each course was paired with a particular wine. It was a seven-course dinner, and the chef and sommelier had worked together to provide not just a dinner, but an experience. It was memorable, and I’d like to do it again someday.

Have you ever worn a pro sports jersey to a sports bar?

No, not a sports bar, but I have frequently worn a jersey to my favorite watering hole to enjoy a game on TV with friends.

HYE had to drive a friend home because he was too drunk to drive his own vehicle?

Yes, on at least one occasion.

Have you ever sneezed while hiccupping?

No, I don’t think so. Doesn’t sound like much fun.

HYE had to stay home for Thanksgiving when you’d rather have traveled?

I’ve probably sneezed while hiccupping, there was a time back in grade school when I seemed to get the hiccupps all the time.

And yes, a couple of years ago my mother was critically ill the week before Thanksgiving. She lives 500+ miles away in Canada (where Thanksgiving is in October) and I would have rushed to see her, leaving spouse and kids to have Thanksgiving with cousins, had they not protested heartbrokenly and begged me to stay home and wait. Fortunately her condition did improve and I didn’t really have to go, but frankly I would rather have traveled to her.
Have you ever eaten food cooked in a pit in the ground?

Yes, sort of. A farmer friend of a farmer friend invited us over one time because he wanted to try something he had heard about, involving some dish that was buried, while a fire was built over it, to heat it. I think it was more of an excuse to get together and drink beer around the fire, because by the time we cleared the fire and dug up the dish, after a number of beers, it was pretty disgusting. We tried it, and hated it, and ended up sending somebody (who had not been drinking beer like the rest of us had) for pizza.

Have you ever punched a card in a time clock?

yes, and it was oddly late in the game for the old analog punch clocks - during the late 90’s. My employer was an elderly doctor who was both frugal and not very open to changes.
Have you ever travelled to a microstate? (e.g. Monaco, San Marino, Liechtenstein, etc.)

Yes, I’ve been to the smallest of them all, the Vatican City
Factoids I didn’t know: it mints its own Euro, has its own telephone system, national anthem, and also issues license plates.

Re. punch clocks, when I was a grad assistant teaching in a university in the early 80s, someone in administration briefly suggested installing one but backed down in the face of faculty scorn and outrage.

Have you witnessed or perpetrated a holiday food emergency or disaster? (here’s a list I read last night, https://www.rd.com/funny-stuff/funny-thanksgiving-help-line-calls/?_cmp=readuprdus&_ebid=readuprdus11212018&_mid=253660&ehid=53e16335e95aaa7da1a1790f92758f8095bf0a31 )

No, but my sister once got in a hot shower holding her turkey when she underestimated the thawing time it needed. True story.

TNP is already trying to decide what kind of pie to eat tomorrow.

nm

Humble pie? I made a few errors at work on Thursday (not a holiday here), but nothing serious.

Have you ever attended a pro wrestling match?

When my son was 5-ish he was into wrestling. I bought tickets and took him to see it live. I was shocked to see adults attending without kids, totally into it.

HYE attended a live kid-event? (Concert, Barney on ice, etc)?

Yeah, sort of? I was in the middle-school musical all three years I was there. (Once as a chorus member, twice as a cast member.) I was also a lighting attendant and later a cast member for several years of Broadway Camp at the JCC.

Were you ever part of the same extracurricular activity all four years in high school?

Yes, orchestra (violin and viola).

HYE been to a ballet (other than the Nutcracker)?

Yep, Prokofiev’s Love of Three Oranges - an opera, but done as a ballet

Have You Ever tired of an author you had really enjoyed?
