Have you no sense of decency, Mr. Cheney?

VP Cheney, on MTP today, when asked about the fact that some of those tortured were wrongly detained (and likely innocent of any wrongdoing):

Tortured a few innocent people… no big deal, right? What an awful human being. Not only does Cheney think we should torture, he’s not that concerned that we tortured innocent people.

What an awful American, and an awful human being.

He’s an excellent example of that sort of blindness that says “I must do whatever action is required to ensure the safety of my country” without any consideration of what those actions actually do to the character of the country he is trying to save. And of course he is constitutionally incapable of admitting that anything he has ever done or been associated with was in fact wrong or a mistake.

As such, he is a pustule on the diseased backside of humanity.

Whatever made you think he did?

My first, second, and third thought too. In fact, I would have been shocked if he had expressed regret or sympathy for the human rights violations done under his watch.

Exactly.

But seriously, why would he NOT be OK if innocent people were affected? Any method you use to capture “bad guys” is going to snare a few innocents.

I note that the exact area of concern that the OP listed was “that we tortured innocent people”, not that “innocent people were affected”.

That guy seriously jerks off while screaming Jack Nicholson’s courtroom speech from A Few Good Men.
The asshole is incredibly dangerous specifically because he believes he’s in the right.

I have a relative who has met him as part of his work. He really is just as much of an idiotic douchebag and asshole as you would expect from his public statements.

To have a sense of decency, he’d first have to understand that the concept even exists.

Cheney, for me, is a walking argument for a hard upper age cutoff on the UNOS list. The fact that this piece of shit got a heart transplant in his 70s while some younger person who isn’t a blight on humanity probably died waiting is infuriating.

He denied that we tortured anyone, and he denied that waterboarding was torture. Of course he has no sense of decency, as he never has. Just be grateful that he is no longer our President, and that he took his veep, GWB, with him.

There’s a “Soviet Russia” masturbation “truth handles YOU!” joke there but I won’t make it.

And furthermore, I will also say that later in that MTP episode, there was an enlightening (for me) discussion about Obama’s drone strategy. I am not giving the current administration a pass with respect to war crimes and lack of decency, either.

I note that there is no operative difference between the two statements. Choose whichever you like and apply it.

Seriously? You think “affected” is a synonym for “tortured”?

You’re right. In a thread about torturing innocent people, when I said “affected”, it’s obvious that I meant “affected by tickling”, not “affected by torture”. My bad.

Most or all of the defenders I’ve heard (before Cheney today) have stated categorically that only terrorists (and often only ‘terrorist masterminds’) were subject to the torture methods.

Sorry John; I’m glad it was just me misunderstanding you.

That’s what gets me, it would have been so easy to make some statement about it being an extremely unfortunate but unavoidable possibility. But he’s not even trying to pretend anymore that he cares about innocent lives.

I don’t even think Cheney is all that concerned with the country as a whole–his concern has only been “the country” in as much as that conceit serves the ideological justifications for his class and political advantage.

I just can’t believe Republicans haven’t denounced this terrorist yet.
