Okay, inspired by the “classics read only by you” thread, I got to thinking about this book I read a few years back. I have never in my life heard of anyone else who’s read it, save the obscure feminist lecturer who recommended it. (I earned myself some extra credit by going to see her that night 
)
The reason for the new thread is I’m trying to remember the name of this book and it’s driving me crazy. It doesn’t help that its a translation that was pretty hard to come by when I was originally looking for it. (I had it borrowed through inter-library loan. There was only one copy in the whole system)
Anyway, I’m going to try to describe it the best I can. It was a novel set in a place where all of the gender roles were switched. Womin (Or perhaps they were called womyn?) were the dominant sex, making all the rules of society. Min (myn?) were expected to be subservient and do only “masculine” things, such as cook, clean, and take care of the children. The main character, I believe, was a pubescent boy trying to comprehend and cope with an unfair world that was always telling him he wasn’t as good as the females in the world. One scene that stands out in my mind was when the young boy was “raped” by a gang of womin who rubbed themselves against him until orgasm. Afterwords, he dealt with feelings of guilt and people telling him it was his fault for dressing too sexy and walking alone at night.
Although pretty exaggerated at times, seeing the gender roles switched like that really brought out the absurdity of traditional ideas of the roles of women and men.
I wish I could remember more from the book and would be grateful to anyone who could tell me the title. I do know that the English version I read was a translation, which made it a bit hard to read at times (and probably why I don’t remember more) although I can’t remember what the original language was.
My Google search was pretty pointless.
I know that there has got to be somebody on this board who’s read this book!
