They tasted a tad stale, but not bad otherwise.
They suffer from the same design flaw as all hard-shelled tacos – if you turn your taco so it will go into your mouth correctly, the filling falls out; and if you turn your head sideways to bring your mouth into the appropriate orientation, you get a kink in your neck.
Maybe Turanga Leela’s father would have a different opinion.
And the first bite inevitably splits the shell along the fold. Just a total mess, hardshell tacos. Fie!
Well that’s why they have the soft-shell over the hard-shell tacos; yum!
I like the dorito shells, but I like the regular shells, too. Do not get the ‘oooh, ahhh!’ factor.
I suspect the numbers thrown about are hype/marketing/advertising.

I got a cheese one back before the Cool Ranch was an option. It was 3 am and I was drunk as a skunk— ie: the only time Taco Bell actually tastes like great cousine. Even then, I wasn’t impressed. The shell was thin and tasted stale. Epic let down.
I absolutely loved the nacho cheese ones and couldn’t WAIT for the cool ranch ones. When they finally did come out, they didn’t dissapoint. I’ve gotten them a few more times since then and I don’t even eat much fast food. They are phenomenal!
Love them! Don’t eat them very often tho. Will have to try the cool ranch…
The Dorito shell was too brittle.
I’ve tried them both and I thought they were fine-- but they are WAY too expensive for what they are.
I have two teenage boys who think these things are great. Due to an order SNAFU I ended up with Cool Ranch instead of my regular hard shell tacos. I was not impressed and ate one and just tossed the others (not really, I’m sure one of my boys had a few extras).
I agree with everyone that the shells are too flimsy. Almost all were broken before even unwrapping them.
I think they are delicious! We go to Taco Bell probably about once a month or so and I order one every time.
I tried one just to say I had. It was just like it sounds, no more and no less. For me, no more.
I will answer for my son since he loves Taco Bell and I don’t.
He loves Doritos and he loves tacos but he did not love them together.
He said the shell was too powdery and he wasn’t impressed.

Wasn’t impressed. Tried them for the novelty value, won’t order them again. Mainly because I usually eat at Del Taco instead of Taco Bell (not like I frequent either one very often).
Nacho cheese one was alright, not really worth the extra money though imo. Cool Ranch was a disappointment, didn’t really taste like anything in particular- just a lot of the citric acid that is common on cool ranch Doritos.
The main reason I don’t care for them is because they are so flimsy, all of the fillings fall out of the bottom! Definitely not as good as their normal taco shells.

Yeah, pretty much that. Meh. And that’s from a Doritos fan AND a taco fan.
It tasted just like a regular Taco Bell taco, as far as I could tell. I couldn’t really taste the Dorito aspect. I don’t see what all the fuss is about, but maybe I got a broken one.
