He has to free the J6ers, right?

Trump confirms he will pardon all the Jan 6 convicts.

Trump didn’t rule out pardoning people who had pleaded guilty, even when Welker asked him about those who had admitted assaulting police officers.

“Because they had no choice,” Trump said.

As stated before, I don’t know how anyone could think it wouldn’t happen.

If it prosper, none dare call it treason.

So here’s a horrible wonderful idea - if it’s gonna happen anyway, BIDEN should pardon the J6 crew on Jan 19 to steal some of Trump’s thunder…

Trump was only president for 2 weeks after the attack, and it may be hard to remember but the attitude towards Jan 6th was very different in its immediate aftermath than it is now. Back then the Republicans were scrambling to figure out how to handle it, McConnell condemned the attack in no uncertain terms and it looked there might actually be 67 votes in the senate to impeach Trump. For Trump to give his obvious support for the insurrection by means of pardoning everyone involved, would be political suicide and open him up to legal jeopardy.

Eventually polling came out that showed that Republican voters were willing to overlook treason, so long as a Republican committed it, and so the Republican politicians fell back in line. Memories of the day faded and they settled on gas lighting the American people by saying that it was a purely peaceful protest, and the Jan 6’ers are patriots who did nothing wrong, and were wrongly incarcerated by Biden for loving America too much. Trump is fully pushing this narrative, and if it is true the only reasonable action is to pardon them ASAP. To do otherwise is either to admit that they did do something wrong, or else be callously letting these innocent patriots rot behind bars without being willing to lift a finger to help them.

That would just lead Trump to say that even Biden admits that the J6 convictions were politically-motivated, which is why he pardoned them on his way out of the White House; keeping them as political prisoners no longer fit his Biden Crime Family agenda.

It wouldn’t steal his thunder, it would be fuel for it.

I did say it was a horrible idea…

EVERYTHING T touches bursts into flames…

So that’s what happened to…

You know what, that’s not a subject for P&E.

Let’s just see if Trump actually does pardon the J6 people. He’s expected to, many people (including myself) have said that it’s practically a guarantee, but he also acts in very erratic and unpredictable ways, so who really knows.

If he pardons this guy, what happens next might well support your thesis:

Jan. 6 rioter is convicted of plotting to murder FBI agents

Trump could pardon him for the Capitol case only, leaving him in prison for the murder plot.

But I think the the pardons probably will burst onto flames in the sense that at least one of the hundreds who are freed by Trump’s Jan. 6 pardons will go on to murder someone.

I assume that Trump’s blanket pardon will be explicit in pardoning only for the events on January 6 in regards to the “protest” itself and issues related directly to it. He’ll have some hack lawyer put the actual language together.

But as I said:

Maybe he’ll say anyone there is pardoned for every federal crime they’ve ever done or some crazy nonsense, over objections of soon-to-be-fired legal counsel.

While I don’t want it to happen, if anyone pardoned for J6 commits murder or some other violent crime, the Dems should give it the same treatment as the Trumpists do every violent crime by an undocumented immigrant. “So-and-so [graduation or wedding photo of victim] would be alive today if Trump hadn’t pardoned this [mugshot or violent pic from J6] convicted felon and all his/her violent comrades!” And use comrades to get under the MAGAs’ skin; it’s a perfectly cromulent word but its connotation is communist/Soviet.

Sure use whatever propaganda you can get out of it. The reality is most had relatively short sentences and many have already served their time. It’s not like they were being put away for life and they wouldn’t be able to do harm except for Trump. For instance the Qanon Shaman finished his sentence May of 2023.

I tried to find out the numbers with only partial success. Some are released every week, but others are still being tried and sentenced.

Many were sentenced to probation, but I think at least half of the sentences require a period of incarceration. And I believe that having to meet a probation officer really reduces the chances of reoffending.

Some are still awaiting trial:

As of October 6, 2024, about 1,561 people had been charged in connection with the Capitol riot, including 590 charged with assaulting, resisting or impeding law enforcement, 979 had pleaded guilty and 210 had been found guilty through U.S. District Court trials.

These people are often shunned by their families. Have no money and are unemployable. And are hated by half the country.

What could possibly go wrong?

They become his Cabinet?

Trump’s schemes are all directed to one thing: enriching himself. Pardoning the J6 assholes won’t do that. He’s only got four years to parlay this win into mega-millions, which means that actual governance will likely be left to underlings and yes-men while he figures out how to continue to bilk people out of their money.

Don’t forget that “asshole” is part of “greedy asshole.”

He’ll do it because it’s an asshole move.

And a great distraction from the real crimes he will be commiting.

That has been proven to be false many times over. He has done so many things that have hurt his financial situation, because even more than the need to enrich himself, he has a need to be praised and given attention. He also can’t stand anyone thinking that he’s a loser in any capacity. That’s a much bigger motivator than simple avarice toward money.

Do you think he keeps defaming people and getting bigger judgements against himself as a scheme to make money?

That plays into it as well.

I didn’t say he was any good at it.
