Argh, number 1 in points but I missed out on a bye by one win. Going against Wilson who I beat before because he has Mahomes and I have Kelce. But the last few weeks they haven’t been connecting as much so this is an uphill battle for me.
Wow, my worst performance of the season, if not my history with this league. My bench outscored my team by 30 points, and that includes someone on IR!
Justin Herbert, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice six times, shame on me.
My first final! After twenty years in this league!
Thought I was in real trouble this week after Saturday’s results… then Jaylen Waddle gave me hope, and Cam Akers blew up to put me ahead.
Enjoy the win. I take consolation in that I won more games this year than last.
Well this is awkward…
It will be very interesting to see how this plays out.
Whelp, seems that since the NFL has said the Bengals/Bills game will not be resumed that Yahoo just used the stats the players had to that point. Doesn’t seem fair, but I have no idea what else they could have done.
Not really the way I wanted to win the league, since my opponent ( @dalej42 ) had Josh Allen, Tee Higgins and Tyler Bass in that game and the odds were that he’d end up outscoring me if the game had been played out. But we’ll never know.
So unless there’s a way to crown us co-champions, my title should come with a big asterisk…
I can only imagine the chaos and arguments going on in various cash leagues, not to mention daily fantasy like DraftKings etc…
I’m not part of this league so I have no skin in the game. One idea might be to just give them their projected scores?
This article had some interesting suggestions for ways to determine the winner:
I’m the commissioner for one of my leagues and we play our championship during the last week of the season. I’ve been talking to the league this week and so far everyone has been pretty casual, but I haven’t checked in with folks now that we have this update (we’re all friends and have been doing this for almost as long as this Keeper league).
One of the semi-finals was close so we had to run the numbers to see how much a cancellation would impact the score. The winning team has Bass (K) but the losing team has Allen and Diggs so there was definitely some concern about an adjusted score. Fortunately, (or unfortunately for the losing team) when we ran with the projections the result stayed the same.
The other game was an absolute blowout and both teams had two players each from the Bengals. The winner has Higgins and Mixon and the loser has Burrow and Chase. The losing team would be still be down by more than 20 points with his projected scores added and that doesn’t even include adding the projected scores for Higgins and Mixon to the winning team.
There’s little riding on a title here, so we can certainly run it however we want. I thought they’d at least run the scoring for those players for their Week 18 performance. We still can - we can just have the commish go back and edit the loser’s Week 17 roster down to be less than the winner’s.
So…
If we had used Week 18 stats for the cancelled game players of Josh Allen, Tee Higgins and Tyler Bass, the Cardinals would have added 34.8667 points to their total. The final score would have been 92.27 to 92.13. Maybe the closest margin of victory in league history - certainly so for a final. That’s 2 yards of rushing/receiving, or 5 yards of passing.
That’s a tough pill to swallow, and I commend Dale for not putting up a fuss - I bet I sure would have. I wish Yahoo had offered alternatives.
While I definitely wanted to win the league, I saw enough ugly squabbles in money leagues, that I was fine with whatever happened in this league.
I was commissioner last year in one of my long standing money leagues and the fights over Covid postponements and late substitutions made me realize I’ll never be a commissioner again. Every single person in that league makes a comfortable salary and it was only a $25 league, so not exactly life changing.
For a free league, you’d better believe I ain’t putting up a fuss.
It’s funny. I’m in a cash league and the stakes are pretty high (4 figure league fees plus transaction fees) but we never really had any issues with either COVID or the Hamlin situation. We were fortunate that our championship game wasn’t really affected by the cancellation. Both teams had 2 players going, but one team was up by 40 points going into MNF so while it wasn’t a lock, it wasn’t super controversial. But during COVID the commish pretty much took the position that it is what it is…if you end up taking a zero because of a late COVID test that’s just the breaks. Even playing field for everyone. We have some really draconian (stupid if you ask me) rules around roster limits which meant people had to drop star players to make line ups some weeks so people definitely felt the pain, but no one felt the need to have a tantrum over it.
Thanks for taking this so well, @dalej42.
I’ve checked and there doesn’t seem to be a way to “officially” crown co-champions in this league, which I’d definitely be OK with.
While Yahoo may not allow it, I think the SDMB Thread ought to award it unofficially at least. If a tie is like kissing your sister, this one is at least like kissing your super hot step-sister. Giggidy.
I think we could go back and just pull the rosters, giving both teams a 0 and the tie - unless there’s a tiebreaker in place. But I think that’s just for the early playoff rounds.
A statistically cleaner fix would probably be to just assign the trailing player’s Bills/Bengals players enough points to equal those of the leading player. Same net result but the teams don’t see a goose egg for their historic scores. It’s small potatoes, but I know some folks like to run statistical comparisons on occasion.
