Cool.
‘420’ was code used to start the suicide bombing attack, the ubiquitous phrase in the movie Spy Game. Brad Pitt’s character is named Tom Bishop. In Sneakers, Robert Redford plays a character named Martin Bishop. Sneakers also featured Sidney Poitier, Dan Akryoyd, and James Earl Jones and other actors. The access code entered at the very beginning of the movie ends in 1138, most likely in reference to George Lucas’s first film, THX 1138. He used reference to that in Star Wars, with “prison cell 1138.” In Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jock’s airplane at the beginning has the registration number “OB-CPO”, referring to Obi-wan and C-3PO from Star Wars. Harrison Ford turned down the Jack Ryan role in The Hunt for Red October as did Kevin Costner. Harrison Ford instead made Presumed Innocent and Kevin Costner made his Oscar-winning Dances With Wolves. The Jack Ryan role went to then character-actor Alec Baldwin. In interviews, the real Jim Lovell, of Apollo 13 fame, had said that he thought Kevin Costner looked a little bit like him, but Costner was never cast. When ‘Brian Grazier’ and Imagine Entertainment got the rights to the script, Ron Howard signed on to direct and knowing that Tom Hanks was an Apollo/space buff, sent the script to him. They set a meeting and Hanks agreed to play Jim Lovell during Hanks’ and Howard’s first meeting about the film. Tom Hanks starred in Apollo 13 with… Kevin Bacon.

“Bong!” - Jay
According to Kevin Smith it is actually more of a “BNNNNG” sound. No vowels. I saw a lecture he gave and he recounted the evolution of Jay’s catch phrases, I don’t remember all of it, but it was funny. Hopefully it will be on that DVD. One other story that was really funny was he was in some smallish town in the midwest somewhere and outside of a church some people were protesting his movie. So he makes a sign that says “Dogma is Dogshit” and joins them. Some reporter interviewed him, too. That was great. Classic Smith.
Yeah, I know, but still…
Thank god!!! someone else who got that meaning of 420…
Incidentally, i spent a week in Amsterdam a couple weeks ago. a coffeeshop there called Grey Area has a clock with 4:20 on every quarter
I hope you know what 4:20 means…
Not a clue. I just smoked the stuff, listened to the Deftones and ate vanilla wafers then went home. I didn’t know there was a whole sub dialect to this!
Please, that’s nothing. Check out the day I joined.
