HE is gay? Who the hell woulda thunk it...

I think I know where the confusion came from. Patrick Stewart, talking to SCOTSGAY magazine (and subsequently quoted in queer publications all over) said:

He never names which three are which. And after accounting for the writer and the director, that means one of the four principle actors was gay. Frankly, though, my money’s on Bryan Batt, who played Darius, the dancer from Cats.

About being gay, Stewart said (paraphrasing from memory here – I can’t find the exact quote), “From time to time, someone suggests that I am gay. I find myself strangely flattered by this.”

He was hysterical on a recent episode of Frasier in which he played a gay opera star who was “dating” Frasier. IRL, he recently married for the third time and had something of a reputation as a ladies’ man.

Bengals fans didn’t have to start it, since there were a whole lot of Steeler fans willing to bring it up. (Personally, I wasn’t much of a Kordell fan either, but I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who felt like a bit of a bastard after watching the “Beyond the Glory” special where his mother and sister died of AIDS).

As for Henry Rollins, I’ve heard the CD, and when I listened to the track about the gay rumors, after he goes through that to the part about sex, he sounds like he regrets he isn’t gay!!

How 'bout “Rear Admiral in/of the Pink Battalion”. My gay friend is big on this phrase.

No offense, but that sounds like something a 15 year old girl would say to show how “understanding” she is or “how unafraid of experimenting with her self image” she is. Or something you say to be polite to a gay themed magazine.

Got anything else?

Agnes FUCKING Moorehead? Well, paint me blue and call me a Smurf. Was this fairly well-known?

This was discussed in another thread (ugh too busy right now to search sorry). She had no reason to try to get out of her contract-it was up and she simply didn’t renew. As for hiding her sexuality vs. keeping her private life private, that’s hard to judge. She brought her partner to the emmys but kept her out of the day to day chatter on her show. That was her choice.

I’m one of the few people who was grateful for her discussion with Selleck on his position in the NRA. He was their spokesperson and therefore open to critiques. I found him far, far ruder than she and that is with my gun bias removed.

"Rosie: No, not your humanity. I think you’re a very humane man. I’m saying that if you…
*
Tom: Let’s just say that I disagree with you but I think you’re being stupid. "

from here.

She even apologised at the end which she needn’t have in my opinion, but whatever.

With a name like Agnes Moorehead you’d expect her to be a pron star.

I had heard that one, but speaking of kaftan-wearing actresses, I heard that Audra Lindley was gay. Anyone else hear that one?

Hmmm, right now there’s some weirdness with Keven Spacey first claiming to have been mugged in a London park at 4:30 am and then retracting it. (article} I’m totally stereotyping but my gay friends only go to public parks late at night for one reason…

She was married to James Whitmore Jr. and had several children, so I doubt it.

Jillian Armengate, the court reporter Donna from Judging Amy, is openly gay I just learned. (She’s on a talk-show talking about trying to adopt a baby.)

The BBC has a much better description of the event

If that’s a euphamism, it’s a new one to me

Musical theatre’s Peter Jobeck just came out: http://www.joback.nu/nyheter2004.htm

Speaking of Kevin Spacey, IMDB.com has this item

OK, so Kevin was out at 4:30 am in a public park, gets robbed but withdraws the complaint. Hmm, why would a man who was out in a park in the wee hours of the night not want a mugging investigated?

I guess the trade was a little rougher than Kevin expected.

Thanks. I heard that one many years ago. I wish I could remember who told me, so I could tell them they’re wrong. Oh well.

The last I read about it was that he retracted the investigation because he got suckered into loaning some kid his cell phone so the kid could make an emergency call. He dialed the number, handed the kid the phone, and the kid took off with it. He tried to chase him, tripped over his dog, and whacked his head. Then he went to the cops, thinking they would try harder to catch a mugger than they would a phone thief. After he went home and thought about it, he decided to come clean.

I think he’s bi. But more than that, it’s no one’s business who he’s sleeping with, so the fact that he doesn’t tell either way speaks well for him. Contrary to popular belief, sexuality doesn’t HAVE to be a subject for public discussion. I have a friend that tells me every. fucking. detail about her sex life, including the blow job she gives her husband at the Burger King drive through. Who fucking cares?

I realize that gay people have a rough go of it and need numbers on their side so other people will begin to look at them as humans rather than freaks. But if a person chooses to keep their sexuality a secret, for business purposes or otherwise, I feel they should be able to do that without fear of being outed in some public forum.

Gays have now infiltrated musical theater. Well, I guess it was only a matter of time.

I would agree if that were the case, but he has in fact denied being gay several times. (Once he denied it three times before a cock crowed.) If he ever does come out, he has some ‘splainin’ to do.

Huh. I never heard that he denied it. Well, even so…if it’s not the right time for him to come out (for whatever reason), isn’t it his perogative to choose that time?

I’m of two minds on that question. Yes, each person needs to reconcile himself to being open at his own time. OTOH, I view people like Spacey as cowards who get the benefits of living as gay men without any of the hardships.

Well, except for getting beaten up by a trick in a London park.

Please, Kalhoun, if you believe that story, then I’ll bet you believe Eddie Murphy was just giving that tranny hooker a ride home.
