He (or she) is alive...........

I just saw a recentish celeb birthday list that had Rosie Grier on it- 86. I thought he died years ago.

To me, known for football, knitting, the OJ thing and, of course, The Thing with Two Heads.

^^Kinda impressive that Rosie is still alive at 86. He’s a big, big guy, and they tend to have shorter life spans.

I thought former Congressman and ‘Cooter’ from ‘Dukes of Hazzard’ Ben Jones had died. Nope. Still alive and kickin’ at 76. I think I was conflating him with Ralph Waite, who did die a while back.

60’s and 70’s TV and movie fixture Barbara Rush-

Never quite hit “the big time” but worked steadily.

Ruth Westheimer. Not only is she alive, but she lives in the neighborhood I moved out of just a month and a half ago. For all I know, I’ve passed her on the street or stood on line behind her at one of the two farmers’ markets or main supermarkets and had no idea.

A couple ‘near misses’ for me - the context where I was reminded that they hadn’t died years ago was discussion of their recent deaths - Steve Ditko (died June 29), and Joe Jackson (Michael Jackson’s dad, not the musician - died June 27). Thought they’d both died years ago (Joe, I was SURE had died before Michael)…but…nope…both this year.

And you never noticed a really short, really old broad passing you by?

You’re not the first Doper to get them mixed up. (Scroll down to the end.)

She’s easy to overlook. ;):smack:

Anna Maria Alberghetti still alive at 82
Claudia Cardinale is 80
Joey Heatherton 74 next month

Early Bond girls
Ursala Andress 82
Daniela Bianchi 76
Claudine Auger 77
Mie Hama 74

There are an awful lot of them (though fewer and fewer each day, sadly) in the little old Jewish section of Washington Heights. That neighborhood was full of European Jewish WWII refugees. As their numbers dwindle, their apartments get taken over by their heirs, Orthodox families with some money, or couples seeking refuge from rapidly escalating real estate prices in other parts of Manhattan.

If you hang out at the Trivium (this little circular bench thing on W. 187th St and Cabrini) in the middle of the day, you can end up sitting next to some of the last of that group. They’ll tell you remarkable stories from their lives, if you’re willing to listen. (Offering to share pastries from the grocery store right behind you helps. It also helps if the Haitian guitar playing guy isn’t there, because everyone ends up listening to him instead. Which he richly deserves, but he’s compelling in a very different way. But I digress…)

Anyway–I might have sat next to her, while one of her contemporaries told me all about his escape from occupied Poland or being smuggled in a barrel out of occupied France.

And of course Daniel Boone.

Luciana Paluzzi 81

Honor Blackman tops those- 92.

Saw Arlene Dahl had a birthday recently- 93. Remember Journey to the Center of the Earth? Always surprised when I see her on the birthday lists. She seems to come from an entirely different era.

Diana Rigg 80

Catherine Schell (“Nancy,” bedded by Bond) 74

Joanna Lumley 72

All from OHMSS. Angela Scoular, who played Ruby (also bedded by Bond), passed away in 2011.

I was driving with my wife a week ago when we saw a billboard for Ed Asner appearing somewhere and both said “Wait, Ed Asner is still alive?”

I was sure Ed Ames had died, but apparently he’s still with us.

Norman Lloyd still acting at 103 most well known in his later career for Dead Poet’s Society and St. Elsewhere

I could have sworn Carol Burnett had died. Nope, she’s still around.

I don’t remember how we got onto the subject, but Alan Alda came up in casual conversation today. He’s 82, and still acting.

Also from Daniel Boone.

Doris Day is 96, and apparently in good health on her California ranch. She’s stayed out of the spotlight for many years, not because of health or reclusiveness, but because she just lost interest in show biz.
