I woke today with a horrible headache and I do not suffer from Migraine. I did a little googling and found it is a common occurrence. I took Advil and it has helped some. I skipped my usual cup of coffee yesterday and caffeine withdrawal was one of the reasons most mentioned on google. What say you dopers? Could missing one day of caffeine cause this?
Has anyone ever had this reaction to one day of missed caffeine?
I thought of apnea as well, but more likely it’s the caffeine. I have to stay off the stuff because the headaches come on so fast when my body realizes I haven’t had any in what it thinks is too long a time.
It’s pretty easy to tell. If you wake up with a headache, then drink a cup of coffee and it disappears, there you go.
I’ve had headaches from missing a cup of coffee, but usually if I get a headache in the morning it’s due to the nerves in my neck. I’ll sleep with a tense neck, or in a weird position, and it gives me a headache. Excedrin knocks it out. I don’t wake up with headaches often, so when I do, I know it’s my neck causing it. It’s completely unrelated to caffeine.
Speaking only in the broadest of generalities … not specific to you.
IF it’s fine in bed until you stand up but hurts like hell with the position change then that is a potential red flag for badness and that hypothetical person should call their doc.
IF it is near the temples and maybe into the neck, hurts or feels better to rub there, and if when one puts one’s fingers in their ears and opens their mouth wide while pressing forward it hurts, then there may be some grinding teeth at night causing jaw joint inflammation and muscles reacting to that. Lots of reasons for that to show up (sure could be caffeine withdrawal disrupting sleep cycle, why not?) and if then so doing something about the reason that is, and maybe a mouth guard and some ibuprofen or naprosyn would possibly help.
Y’a know, I had caffeine headaches for years. Until I was diagnosed with mild sleep apnea. If I use the CPAP at night, I don’t have a caffeine headache in the morning. If I miss the CPAP, that “caffeine” headache returns…
