(Old) Heading home to the MMP

Lying in bed here, need to break fast and then catch my bus later to Heathrow, then fly across the pond tomorrow and finally get home on Wednesday. Doing this like the old Wells Fargo coachline…in easy stages

Hope everyone is doing well and will be heading home either later today, or in FCM’s case, sometime next month. And safe journeys home to all.

First!

I have today, tomorrow, and Wednesday off, as we’re traveling to the French-speaking part if the country for a concert. Happens to be very close to the only place in Switzerland that makes Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

Today is shopping for a fan, soaker hose, and milk, but not at the same place.

Safe travels.

Second!

Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 21c/70f with a predicted high of 29c/84f and mostly sunny. Weather app says “This fucking weather is dumber than a box of fucking hair.” Can weather be dumb?

You would hate most of our holidays then, I think the last one we took to the US involved a two-week stay and 12 different hotels (and about 1,500 miles of driving).

How is she doing today? I hope you’ve managed to find some kind of solution for getting meds into her.

metalmouse safe travels! I’m glad you got to enjoy Portsmouth’s maritime offerings too. They are very proud of their seafaring heritage down there.

Dicey enjoy your trip across country!

I was up early this morning, woke up and couldn’t get back to sleep as it was warm in the house already. The cats are fed and watered, I’ve showered and have done a bit of work today. Friday’s troublesome student now has her results officially as the financial restriction was taken off her account. I messaged the person in charge of graduation stuff to ask if she could be rushed through so that she appears in the official graduation booklet.

Today’s plans involve taking 'im indoors to the station in about half an hour’s time, then a bit more work, grocery shopping at lunchtime and then more irk in the afternoon. Once I log off, I may well go and lay in a bath of cold water!

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off to heave.

Well the Microsof Weather App is. It says things like “Temperatures to DropTo the uper 80s” and “Rain to startin 7-10 days

Cats taking up the fainting couch again?

Cherry has managed to disport herself across the bed. I can see that cat and I will be having discussions about dignity later

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and mostly clear with a predicted high of 87 and cloudy with rain off and on. Perhaps a good day to stay inside and dry, which works for me as RDOS inactivities are the plan of the day. Sup will be homemade lasagna (I’m feelin’ ambitious!), sallit and cheesey garlic bread. If I decide to motivate in a little while, it might be lunch instead.

Safe travels to all the travelers!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Moanday Y’all!

Taters………. What did you say??

I’m currently sitting here with a wild old poodle on my lap/legs. She’s been flopping her ears quite a bit this morning. Not sure what that’s about. Oopsie, many hugs to you and Bailey. Of course I’ve been thinking about Bubba Schnoodle as you talk. I hope you can find some relief for her.

Ok, I’m hungry. I think it’s time for breakfast.

Mornin’ all - A bit after sunrise, the balconatin’ and caffinatin’ has been easy for an hour or two, and I’m about to be driven inside unless some clouds conveniently move into position quickly. After a couple of gray mornings, this one promises to be mostly bright and shiny. Thank goodness. Overnight low was 79/26, it’s now 81/27 on the way to 90/32 with the usual afternoon showers & mild thunderstorms dumping on somebody somewhere for a few minutes. Though probably not me. I hope.

The plan of the day is … wait for it … RDOS. With a side order of trying to plan something to get my butt in motion in the long-term absence of GF.

That was my thought. A typical hotel stay is overnight. The only thing that gets unpacked is the power cords to recharge my toys, my bathroom kit, and tomorrow’s shirt to hang and dewrinkle a smidgen while I sleep.

It honestly feels real weird to stay a second night in the same place. “Wait, wasn’t I just here? What went wrong?” I’m slowly getting used to multi-day stays, but paradoxically the recent spate of overnight low-rent rendezvous are now reinforcing the one-and-done habit of a career.

Big {{hugs}} to you both. We’re here for you as the future unfolds as it will. Good luck with the vet getting her interested in eating again.

You totally deserve a day (or three) off. Self-care is the best care.

Cheers all, as I launch valiantly … back towards the coffee pot for a refill then right back to Doping.

Ok, I had yesterday’s leftover soup for breakfast. It was ok. But I’m frustrated because my damn hand was shaking as I picked up a (you know, really heavy) can of Diet Coke to take a sip.

Oh well. Anyways, I have an appointment to get some of the words redone on my latest tattoo. It’s very hard to read them so she’s going to do a lighter color. MusicMan and I were discussing this and because I have two fairly large tattoos on my left arm, he pointed to my right arm. I’ll bet that you can guess what he said…

I thought about starting this morning but I was up around 8 which is 2 eastern time, and I opted to let someone else do it. It’s now just after 2PM here in the North Sea somewhere between Rotterdam and Andalsnes. I took a watercolor class this morning, but she skipped what I would call basics, like how wet should the brush be… I won’t bother with future classes. I also skipped origami because FCD and I were sitting on deck 9 at the very back watching our wake. We also apparently witnessed a ship fall off the edge of our flat earth as we saw it, then a bit later, it was gone!

My poor, tired sweetie came back to nap and I went to a presentation about Vikings. It was interesting, but the presenter had a dry, monotonous style, and I fought to stay awake. We’ll be going back to the theater in a bit for a lecture about ships.

The day started out clear and sunny, but it’s clouded over, and rain is threatened for tomorrow. We’ll be taking a train ride, so we may not get the greatest views. But how can you lose with a train ride?

So, Happy Moanday!

Morning everyone. I’m camping just outside of College Station as I wend my way back to the DFW area. Couldn’t resist rejoining this MMP as the subject is so relevant.

Been down at the Gulf of Whatever the dipshits are calling it, surf fishing. Caught a few, but weren’t big enough to be legal.

Did my good deed for the week on the last day. While driving back up the beach to get to the legal passthru over the dunes, I found a family stranded in the sand. They were nice folks, but their decision to try getting through deep sand in a regular car was… well they were buried up to the axles.

So I had one of the best days in a redneck’s life. When we actually need all that 4 wheel drive and tow straps and stuff. I got to stride about in a manly fashion with heavy objects and pull things with my truck, and they got a free tow* out of some really deep sand.

*It can cost over $1000 to get towed out of there.

So, hope everyone has a great week! I’m about to “break camp” and head for home.

This whole story made me smile.

(Also, username! Should be “pullOUT.”)

Very nicely planned…hope shopping went well.

Don’t know, but it sure can be hot. Mid-to-high 80’s here in London and the paper I am reading says it’ll be sticking around for awhile–may make it to 35C/94F tomorrow which is hot even by swampy/pilot’s locales.

If I’m going to be in a hotel for more than two days I’ll unpack some, but one day only things mostly stay in the luggage,

Sticky Buns, thanks for the grin.

FCM, what, you’ve been on the ship for 24 hours and no boozing!!?!? Don’t you know anything about cruising? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

There is truth to that. Hope it clears up, we had clouds in the morning on our days in Norway but sun later on,

Yanker, yay for being those folk’s hero to the rescue. Safe journey home.

As you might have guessed I am at my hotel at Heathrow Terminal 4 and got my laptop connected up. Took two+ hours on the bus to get here, we had 4-5 stops in-between but I got off, went right into the terminal, up 3 flights and walked 5-6 minutes and was at my hotel. Checked my Rail Card (they call it an Oyster Card for some reason) and have enough value left on it to get over to Terminal 3 (which is quite a distance away, Heathrow has its terminals all over the place) so Im good for tomorrow. Will try checking in for my flight right after this and then nothing but slothage for the remainder of the day. Found a restaurant on this side of the arrival desks that looks pretty decent, so that will be dinner tonight.

And it feels so damn good being able to interact with you all. Probably just for today, doubt I’ll be able to deploy the laptop tomorrow, but getting closer. Everyone take care now.

In the last few years, all of our US trips have been multi-stop ones. The only times we stayed more than one night anywhere was to spend two nights each at Bryce and Zion national parks, and two nights in Chicago. We also stayed two nights in Mineral to visit Lassen Volcano Park but only because we were due to arrive in Mineral late in the afternoon, and didn’t realise we had to drive through the park to get to the Lodge  We went back to the park the next day and spent our day pottering through and stopping at lots of places on the way.

Good morning, everyone.

It’s 62°F and sunny outside. Once again, we’ll have abundant sunshine, but the temperature will climb up to 88°F today—much too warm for me.

Most of my recent travel has been for only one or two nights. If I’m at a place for more than three nights, I tend to unpack and hang up my clothes. I did this so I didn’t have to iron, because I hate using hotel irons.

Now, since I’m a RDOS, most of the clothes I would pack wouldn’t get wrinkled, but I haven’t been on any trips since I retired, so we’ll see how it goes.

Nice work, Yanker!

I’m glad you’re feeling better, Shoe!

Yesterday’s trip to the vet was very spendy. Jeebus. :open_mouth: Maisie does indeed have an ear infection in her right ear, but we’re treating both to be safe. Buster, once again, had a lesion on his belly that was infected, but fortunately, it had not spread. He’s on two drugs for that. Finally, rather than trying Apoquel, which would be ridiculously expensive for two dogs, they both received an allergy shot (I don’t recall the name of the drug), which is supposed to last for six to eight weeks. We’ll check in four weeks from now, the first time. Between the tests, the day of admission, and the shots, we spent just under a grand. Well worth it, but sheesh, I was expecting around $400 less.

Anyway, I weeded the garden bed at the end of my driveway yesterday morning (in the sun, damn it), plus over into the SN’s (Shitty Neighbor) river rock bed. It’s full of tall weeds and an eyesore. After that, I weeded, edged, mowed, and watered the front and back lawns and gardens. I didn’t accomplish any pruning, but I did a lot of deadheading, too.

I have little room left in the grass bin, but I may try some pruning this morning.

Other than that, I don’t have any plans except for maybe some laundry. All of y’all take care!

User name checks out.

Good job on the tow, yank!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, KP done, bed stripped, towels / sheets just about finished in the dryer and the bed remade.

I put a different set of sheets on the bed (oy! that means that I’ll have to fold the fitted sheet in the dryer) to see if they fit better than the set I had on. They do. Funny thing, the set that I put on was loose on my old bed while the ones in the dryer fit the old, but barely on the new.

I’m not sure how much I’ll get done today; it’s a hurty day for the back, so I may take a lazy day.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

The usual Monday-ing. I was loading on Middle Red, which wasn’t too bad this time.

Good job! There’s actually a FB group dedicated to people who get stucon Carolina and Kure beaches.

Safe travels eveyone!

Most suitable mumper name this week! Well done, Yanker.

Only if there are very annoying other people. Otherwise, train rides for the win!

I like unpacking on a cruise. There’s space for stuff, even space on the counter in the bathroom. If I’m in a hotel just for sleeping, I don’t really bother unpacking, except the toiletries.

When we drive somewhere we usually stay in each place at least 2 nights. Changing hotel rooms every night is not much fun, especially when we want to explore the location.

Fought with the new soaker hose and managed to wend it around the four shrubs that dearly need a good soaking. They are only 1.5 years old and aren’t established enough for this hot weather. It’s a bit sunnier on that side than I thought - some of the nearby grass is very brown. I don’t care about the grass, but I’d like the shrubs to survive.

Because the landscaper may wish to mow the grass, and doesn’t come on a fixed schedule, I’ll have to pick up the hose before going to bed. Hopefully it’s easier to deal with then.

Speaking of trains, we went and saw the updated train section of the local transportation museum. Looks nice, but they don’t have AC. So we didn’t spend much time upstairs, where it was even warmer.

Not getting much rain, but we’re cooling off due to the storms in the mountains. We can hear the thunder, but that’s it.

As far as I know, we’re going nowhere for the 4th. The wife’s niece invited us, but wifey really hates having to do the 45 minute drive to get there. I feel like there may be an argument in the future about this. I’m not willing to stop driving just yet and everyone we’re related to locally lives that distance away. She’s become reluctant to leave the apartment, which is also somewhat disturbing. We spend way too much time sitting on our butts in front of a screen.

Made breakfast, finished all puzzles, fed the cat, went to exercise and reshelved books in the community library. Also ran the dishwasher. Sadie is telling me she may want some lunch soon.
