Oh! A drum kit… drool When is Astrogirl going on vacation again?
I found out today that one of my neighbors has a full set of Allen wrenches… gonna go over a bit later and see if I can borrow them! Problem solved! (assuming that there is one in the set that will do the job… probably is, as the neighbor is also a hardcore guitar head!)
A drum kit, eh… hmmm… where could I put it? Hmmmm…
The original problem was the low E buzzing on the pickup, right? If you can’t source an allen key, couldn’t you lower the pickup a tad? On my guitars there are adjusting screws each side to allow this…
Re the drumkit: do what a music-teacher friend of mine did. He and his girlfriend (now wife) were round at our house. I had a borrowed kit at the time. He encouraged her to ‘accompany’ the jam session on drums. She took to it and eventually took lessons (they now have a kit at home). She’s really proficient now, so he has not only a drum kit at home, but a drummer!. So. Astrofiance -> Astrogirl -> AstroDRUMMER! Stranger things have happened.
(Off topic)… my wife’s a music teacher at a local school and she teaches a recently joined Korean girl (about 14). I rigged the sound for a school concert recently and this girl sang (and played on keys) a Korean folk song. Although the audience didn’t understand the words, they (and I) were absolutely spellbound. It was eerily beautiful. Dunno why I shared that (apart from the obvious Korean reference). Just wanted someone to know…
I probably COULD do this, but I’m afraid that doing so would then lower the pickup so that the other 5 strings wouldn’t register strongly enough (thus leading to a WAY bassy sound when played through an amp… remember that the hardware on this guitar is faulty, and I’m gonna have to change it soon, but I’m looking for a short-term, easy way out!)…I’m not that experienced with electric guitars, and want the easy way out… the easier fix is to raise the low E…
As I said, I’m going to borrow a set of Allen wrenches from my co-worker tomorrow (if I can catch him at home)…
Actually, I think Astrogirl would really get into a drum kit! But I have no place to put it… I live (currently) in a dorm room that is about 12 feet by 12 feet. As it is, when I want something from my bookcase, I have to move 3 guitars out of the way… maybe later, after I’m rich and can move into a place with some room…
Korean music… all I can say is: weird stuff! It depends on a tonal system that is completely different than western music…
I have a favorite bar that I go to that capitalizes on this:
The bar is in the basement of a building, and the walls are covered ENTIRELY in dried roses (which they change every once in a while). You go in at, say, 7 PM, and start drinking with your friends… at first they play Korean pop music over the PA system… but gradually, over the course of the evening, they change to traditional Korean music… Suddenly, you realize that it is 11 PM, you are drunk, and you have been listening to traditional Korean music for the last few hours! Weird! But fun!
(For those of you who have never heard traditional Korean music, I can’t adequately describe it here… but it consists of occasional twangs on a Korean stringed instrument, and a crash on a drum, and someone (usually female) singing AaaAAHHHAAaAhhOOOOooooOOOooOoOOoOOOOOyeeeahha oooooOOeeeEEE ahh!. Most weird, but cool when it sneaks up on you as you slowly get drunk!)
It’s really cool music, but not something that I’d listen to normally…
