Hello!

I think the squid is still feeling a bit ill from when the last guy kicked it. (Don’t get any ideas, Bayesian Empirimancer- the squid molester was taken away and fed to the hamsters). The goat it will have to be.

Don’t worry, most people survive!

I thought we sent around a card for Mariah (the squid) when that happened? Never did get back to me. There will be words when I find out who stuck it in their desk drawer and forgot about it.

Keeping in mind that 51% is still “most.” Those others – well, they knew the risks when they walked through the funhouse doors. Poor bastards.

Welcome, Bayesian. Enjoy your stay here, make great posts, and if you hear a baaing sound, for god’s sake keep your legs together.

Picking a name that is going to be difficult to re-type when responding to your comments is just passive aggressive behavior, and is a clear indicator of how things will go for you in the future.

And what about Mighty Lonk? He needs to come out of retirement…

Welcome, Bayesian. Be sure to use proper spelling, punctuation and grammar and you should be fine.

Welcome! Would you like some ice cream? It’s [del]frisky[/del] fresh!

[sub]Ah yes. The squids. I remember… no, that’s not correct. I’ve blanked it all out. They said the effects would be only temporary, but it’s been ten years and I still feel a little odd. [/sub]

I always copy/paste names. Takes the pain away and makes it calm and refreshing to the breath.

Ten bucks per person should do it.

First of all you need to be a pro-choice, atheist, Democratic, bacon-loving evolutionist, who likes The Beatles, Monty Python, and Rio by Duran Duran. If you can pass this test you can stay.

ETA: Forgot pro-gay marriage and anti-alternative medicine. There. That pretty much sums it up.

Only a sawbuck?

That sounds a bit sheep. Er… cheap.

Is that how we’re funding the next-gen Robogoat?

Agreed.

You’ve got the jackboots, you’re supposed to tell us about procedural changes.

I’m a math librarian
And unfortunately, a bio and chem major. Fits me perfectly!

Once again, I want to tank everyone for the warm welcome!

And whipped cream? sounds interesting, tell me more…

Are you responsible for that whole Dewey Decimal fiasco? If fractions were good enough for my grandpa, they should be good enough for all Amurkins. How hard can it be to look up a book under 974-754/975?

Right then…you just forfeited your share.

Oooh, well played BE.

Good luck, Good welcomes, and enjoy your stay here!

My only advice- it helps to stay away from the pit for a few weeks until you properly get the feel of this place. Far too many burnouts happen from people who step right in and just try to take over the Pit- it was always one of the last places I ventured into when I joined the Dope (I waited 6 months before it, and still rather avoid it). But there’s plenty of fun to be had everywhere else around here!

Keep an eye out for news of local Dopefests, and go meet some fellow travelers. It’s a lot more fun than it would seem at first thought.

Remember to periodically complain about:

  1. How this place just isn’t the same since 1999 and/or; they went to paid subscriptions and/or; the big “Pit Rule Meltdown of 2009”

  2. How slow the servers are.

  3. Any Moderator.

You’ll fit right in.

I just had to go look at the thread where I was among a batch of newbies being welcomed. Thought it might be amusing for those around in those days, perhaps going by another handle.

Welcome the newbies!

That’s why we use the Library of Congress system. It’s very pretty, if a classification system can be beautiful that it…
