Hell's Kitchen 7/11/14

I know no one is talking about this show, but I just have to say that I could not believe what Joy did this week. I thought she was the favorite to win it all, and she threw it away in a hissy fit???

I know! I said as the show began, “I like Joy. I think she’s going to win it.” And then she had a meltdown like that. Very surprising. I’d really liked her too–I especially liked her after she said in passing after another contestant had talked about being homeless a lot. “I was homeless too and I don’t need to tell everyone.” Or words to that effect.

I had just told my husband I thought she would win it, too!

Now, I think it’ll be that kid that looks like Paul Ryan.

That’s Scott. I’ve been sort of leaning away from him, just because I think he has coasted along (in life, in general) on his looks. Not that I can point at anything in particular, just my impression. Or possibly prejudice.

Now I think I’m rooting for Jason.

Sam Lee was fun with his commentary. Call me surprised when a joy quit.

Yeah, Mr. Lee seems like a real sweetiepie.

I meant Stan. Oops:smack:

I’ve been rooting for Scott since about the fifth episode. For a long time I liked him but thought he didn’t have the goods to win, but after Joy’s epic meltdown and Melanie starting to lose it, I think he’s got a shot.

Poor Joy. I think that was mostly about what Amazing Race fans call “killer fatigue.” She was just too tired to care anymore.

Wife and I were shocked at Joy’s departure. The only explanation I can think of? It was scripted. I think the show’s final two is picked by the producers at the beginning of the season, and all the rest is just scripted drama.

I’m not convinced they’re chosen that early, but I do think the producers have a say in advancing the more interesting, dramatic or controversial contestants. The colorful ones sometimes don’t emerge until after several episodes.

I think the right editing can also intensify the drama.

I wish they’d leave out the “blood in the kitchen” moments. I know it happens, but I don’t want to see it. :frowning:

Joy was one of my main picks from the start. Originally, I thought it would come down to Joy, Melanie and Scott. So much for that. Melanie has fallen off a bit and I am expecting a serious stumble pretty soon. Rochelle has really impressed me though and she has a great attitude. I would love to see her take this one.

With Joy, I think the exhaustion got to her. It looked like she just didn’t have anything left in the tank. Part of me thinks that she might have been better off if she got yelled at more in the beginning. It might have been easier for her to handle the challenges later on if it built up instead of her coasting on consistency early on.

Go Rochelle!

I’m surprised anyone favors Scott for anything other than the Creepiest Dude in Creepytown. Either way, I agree that Joy had emerged as the favorite and that this was more surprising than any of the other “twists” I’ve seen on the show.

Y’all still watching? We’re down to the last two now and Scott looks like a shoo-in for the win.

I was surprised the other finalist wasn’t a girl…I figured they’d keep up the boy vs. girl silliness all the way to the end. It was pretty funny when Ramsay asked them who should go and they all took turns nominating each other so no one was left out.

I’m still in it until the bitter end, but it’s another year where I don’t like either of the finalists.

Absolutely! I was pretty upset Rochelle got sent home - I liked her the best of all of them.

I wouldn’t go that far, but I would be surprised if Gordon didn’t have a “favorite” that he wanted to win, especially as the prize is being a chef at one of Gordon’s own restaurants (assuming, of course, that a change in British labor laws or “personal reasons that we’re not saying have anything to with reports that somebody failed a mandatory drug test” don’t prevent the winner from getting the job). I’m also pretty sure the final decision as to who wins is Gordon’s, and if any of the producers don’t like it, all he has to say is, “Remember what happened when Simon Cowell decided he had had enough of The X Factor.”

I’m glad to see somebody finally admits this…
