Help for an injured SDMBer, please?

I am posting this with the very kind permission of the Mods -

A longtime SDMBer but infrequent poster, jlzania, is in a bit of a fix. She and her husband run a small organic chicken farm, mostly alone. She broke her arm badly a few weeks ago, and is going to need surgery, and they have no insurance. They have a good chunk of the medical costs covered but are still coming up $10,000 short. They are asking for donations, if anyone has a few bucks to spare.

Some IRL friends of her set up this for her, it gives more detail on the situation and how to donate:

I know solicitations are a touchy subject, but JLZ is not an attention whore, and as sane and hardworking as they come. I’ve known her online for almost 15 years; she’ll speak her mind (quite forcefully on occasion) but she won’t bullshit you, and she certainly wouldn’t ask for handouts due to laziness or entitlement. This really is a crisis, and any small amount you care to donate will be very gratefully received.

Should there be donations in excess of the 10k, that will go to an injured farmer’s fund to help others in a similar predicament.

Thank you one and all for taking the time to read this, and to donate if you are do inclined.

Is there a way to also buy some product to have shipped as a means of support? I love supporting the small business - but not sure if they can ship to California.

I’d like to help, is she the one who had the ‘Ask the chicken farmer’ thread a couple years ago? (having trouble with my search)

Yes, she is. Link.

Edit: JLZ’s website: http://www.dhfarms.com/

Thanks! One of my favorite ‘ask the’ threads.

Was just reading through the aforementioned thread again, and unless something has changed:

Donation sent! Good luck jlzania!

Thank you, all! Sounds like she’s now out of surgery and doing well, and the 10k goal is creeping closer thank to the kindness of strangers. Maybe this isn’t such a horrible world after all.

Yes, I wish she could send the birds out of state, I’d treat myself to a few each year no matter the cost.

I just tweeted this link to the local Austin food community. I hadn’t seen anything about it so I hope it gets spread around. I’ll do what I can to make it get noticed.

Wonderful!

Bump … WOW! Over $7k already.

Isn’t it amazing?

An update from jlzania herself on FB:

And $8,705 was raised by 93 people in 5 days!
