I have a strange problem (actually more than one but let’s concentrate on this one) in that I sweat like a pig. I can shower in the morning, put on anti-persperant and put on a fresh shirt and in less than 2 minutes, I will be dripping from my pits. Before I leave the house, I’m wet and I’ll drip all day. Now I don’t stink so it’s not an odor problem I have but it’s the constant dripping that is driving me nuts.
I went to my family doctor to find out what to do but I’m not getting satisfaction. At first they prescribed a medicine that had 6.25% of Aluminum Chloride and it’s OK but I asked for something stronger and I was awarded a stronger solution (6 ounces) of a medicine with 20% Aluminum Chloride. This stuff works but with only 6 oz. it only lasts 2 weeks or so. I’ll go broke trying to keep up.
What’s weird is that I had used an anti-perspirant for years with no problems. But now they no longer make “Sure Extra Dry”. Like I said, I didn’t have any problems and never knew I had a sweating problem. I’ve tried almost everything else on the market (Generally all that is available is Aluminum Zirconium or Dipropylene Glycol products) and they aren’t working for me. Can anybody help me out on what else I might try?
The Most Effective Anti -Perspirant You Can Buy Without A Prescription
Certain Dri contains Aluminum Chloride, the ingredient prescribed by Dermatologist to patients with excessive perspiration or Hyperhidrosis. Laboratory studies prove that Aluminum Chloride is more effective and longer lasting than other ingredients found in anti-perspirants. It is safe when used as directed.

Excessive sweating can affect a lot of people. There are over 3 million people in America alone who suffer from hyperhidrosis. The active ingredient (12.6% aluminum chloride) in Maxim is a special formulation with patents pending, which will not burn like prescription brands. Maxim is recommended by leading surgeons to treat hyperhidrosis.
You might wanna get a test for hypothyroidism…folk with it untreated sweat like a pig. Among other things, like getting fat deposits despite eating not-very-fatty foods and exercising, and an oft-lasting fever. Just a thought.
I have a similar problem. Doesn’t even seem to vary with my weight - I’ve been at very different levels of fitness in my life, and still seem to sweat a lot.
Someone once told me there’s an operation whereby some nerves can be cut to prevent sweating (but not necessarily recommended by doctors - sweating fulfills a necessary cooling function). I searched in Google for “cut nerves sweating” and found this site which may be useful:
I worked with a guy who had this problem. He researched it and found a doctor in Texas who performed an operation to correct it. Apparently there are very few doctors who can do this procedure. I involves implanting clamps near some nerves. Don’t know the details.
Long story short, the operation was botched, lawsuit, other problems, another operation to remove clamps, some had scar tissue and couldn’t be removed. The guy’s in misery, etc. etc.
How old are you? I’m curious because a very similar thing was affecting me for a few years in college and I’m now 23 and the problem has gone away.
If your within that magic age group, the problem may be hormonal and could disappear on its own. I’ve known other people affected this way and my younger sister is having a similar problem. I’m not an MD but you may want to just give it some time.
I’ve found that I sweat more for every pound I put on, and I sweat more as I got more and more out of shape.
After working 9-5 and not doig anything aerobic for a while, I decided to get back to my college and hich school body weight and get my aerobic system back in shape.
The result is that I can do more without sweating.
I have an obese friend who sweats walking to his car.
I used to have the same problem. My solution, however, is the exact opposite of what you might expect.
Eventually, I figured out that it was the anti-perspirant itself that caused me to sweat so excessively! Once I stopped using anti-perspirants or deodorants altogether, the problem completely disappeared. Now, I only sweat in any significant amount when excersizing or when it it extremely hot.
Now, some people will act like you are a leper if you tell them you don’t use anti-perspirant. But if you shower everyday, you will not have any odor problems at all. Remember that body odor is caused by bacteria, not by the sweat itself. I’ve been anti-perspirant free for almost 10 years now, with no problems. My girlfriend did not even know until I told her. In fact, one of my friends asked me what kind of anti-perspirant I used after we had been to the gym together. My answer was quite surprising to them , to say the least!
I don’t know why the anti-perspirants had this effect on me. Maybe I developed some sort of chemical sensitivity? It is highly possible, of course, that this isn’t the answer to your problem. However, I would urge you to try a few days without anti-perspirant, rather than simply increasing the dosage indefinately. Maybe you can take a long weekend and give it a shot. Just be sure to thoroughly wash all the residue from the anti-perspirant away, and you should be able to tell within a day or two if this will help you. Good luck!
