Help ID this late 80's or maybe early 90's sitcom please.

It was on one of the pay channels like HBO or Showtime.

It’s about this guy, he’s a single Dad and he’s always relating things in his life to old TV shows. They were constantly doing cut aways of him in various TV shows in quite the comedic fashon.

Thanks.

I will do some research because I remember the show. The intro had the central character as a kid sitting in front of a TV seeing the old shows which formed his present day character.

Found it… Dream On

That’s it. Thanks guys. I was hoping I could stream it but I guess not. Too bad.

I remember enjoying the premise, but seem to remember it being cancelled rather quickly. How many episodes are there?

6 seasons, 120 episodes: never heard of it.

How odd, I was just having a discussion about this show the other day - saying it wasn’t available on HBO Go…

Wendy Malick got her TV break on that show as the lead character’s ex-wife, I think. I have Seasons One and Two on DVD, but I don’t think the other seasons are available easily.

The lead is Madeline Stowe’s husband. I remember being pretty shocked at that.

Also, they syndicated it on a network that wasn’t HBO. I remember telling one of my brothers at the time, who had only watched it in syndication, that pretty much every woman on the show you saw naked when it was on HBO. He was pretty shocked.

I also remember reading somewhere that this is where HBO got its “TV static opening” thing it still uses.

I loved this show when it came on, even though I thought there was far to much naked humping. It distracted from the storytelling half the time.

:confused::confused::confused:

Is this even possible?

Reruns were shown on Fox in prime time while the show was still making new episodes on HBO. Fox did the same thing with It’s Gary Shandling’s Show.

Well 120 episodes so perhaps you were thinking of a different show? Hi Honey, I’m Home! on Nickelodeon?

I remember this show, and I feel like this was the launching point for HBO’s original programming. Sort of the granddaddy of Larry Sanders, Larry David, Carrie Bradshaw, Tony Soprano, et al.

I gotta say the naked women were the only reason I bothered with this show.

So you win some, you lose some.

Being as I was 13 when the shop started airing, I was in it for the same thing. But I guess it was at least kinda funny.. don’t really remember much besides the frequent nudity.

I remember that show when it first came on…and I’m a little surprised that it isn’t available on HBOGo. One of my friends still always talks about Brian BenBen and Dream On.

Does anyone remember the other shows from way back then on HBO? I don’t think any are on HBOGo. 1st and 10 (with Delta Burke I think), Brain Games, Fraggle Rock, Hardcore TV and I think Kids in the Hall was on HBO…weren’t they?

I remember the 1st 3. Never watched KitH.

Yep. Don’t forget Not Necessarily The News, The Hitchhiker and Tales From The Crypt.

Wow…how could I forget those…loved NNTN and Tales…why aren’t any of them on HBOGO?
