It was on one of the pay channels like HBO or Showtime.
It’s about this guy, he’s a single Dad and he’s always relating things in his life to old TV shows. They were constantly doing cut aways of him in various TV shows in quite the comedic fashon.
I will do some research because I remember the show. The intro had the central character as a kid sitting in front of a TV seeing the old shows which formed his present day character.
Wendy Malick got her TV break on that show as the lead character’s ex-wife, I think. I have Seasons One and Two on DVD, but I don’t think the other seasons are available easily.
The lead is Madeline Stowe’s husband. I remember being pretty shocked at that.
Also, they syndicated it on a network that wasn’t HBO. I remember telling one of my brothers at the time, who had only watched it in syndication, that pretty much every woman on the show you saw naked when it was on HBO. He was pretty shocked.
I also remember reading somewhere that this is where HBO got its “TV static opening” thing it still uses.
I remember this show, and I feel like this was the launching point for HBO’s original programming. Sort of the granddaddy of Larry Sanders, Larry David, Carrie Bradshaw, Tony Soprano, et al.
Being as I was 13 when the shop started airing, I was in it for the same thing. But I guess it was at least kinda funny.. don’t really remember much besides the frequent nudity.
I remember that show when it first came on…and I’m a little surprised that it isn’t available on HBOGo. One of my friends still always talks about Brian BenBen and Dream On.
Does anyone remember the other shows from way back then on HBO? I don’t think any are on HBOGo. 1st and 10 (with Delta Burke I think), Brain Games, Fraggle Rock, Hardcore TV and I think Kids in the Hall was on HBO…weren’t they?
