Help ID This LOW Budget Sci-Fi Space Flick

This is a film I saw once on television about 40 years ago. It was one of those 2:00 am “Sci-Fi Saturday Night” features. I think the film had one big name star (Basil Rathbone I think - but wouldn’t bet on it). I have searched the IMDB for this with no luck.

Basically, a space ship (with crew) is launched and then they release a satellite bomb. (I have NO idea why they are doing this). Then comes a HUGE error in physics. The space ship pulls away from the satellite bomb but they can’t get away from it. Why? They say that the gravitational attraction between the 2 although negligible on Earth is sufficient enough in space to keep the ship and the satellite attracted to each other. So, one of the crew members volunteers to go outside the ship, grab onto the satellite and activate his jet pack while the ship and crew make a retreat in the other direction. Needless to say, the volunteer gets blown up with the bomb but the space ship and crew are saved !! YAY !!

Obscure huh? But I bet some Message Board “Dopers” can figure this one out.

Does it involve a beachball alien? Talking to the bomb? Well it just might be Dark Star

Satellite in the Sky

OK, Reeder, did you read my post on the IMDB board?

I took the liberty of posting this question there, and that was the most likely response that came back. . . suspiciously about 15 minutes before Reeder’s post. Hmmm. . . .

No more phone calls we have a winner !!!
I’ll give the credit to Earl Snake-Hips Tucker for taking the initiative of posting this on the IMDB Message Board and thanks to Reeder for posting it so fast.
I only saw this movie once but I remember it was a snooze fest zzzzzzzzz. However, it had been so long since I saw this movie I thought I was beginning to imagine it !! I’m glad of that because now I know there’s no reason to increase my medication. LOL
Seriously, good work by you guys !!!
And thanks !!!

I ran a plot search…space satelitte bomb.

One hit.

But I did spell satellite right.
