Just bought Mrs. P a new DVD player and I’m having one hell of a time trying to hook it up. The manual has very clear instructions but the components are different from mine. My TV only has one connector and it goes to the satellite box. I tried connecting to red, yellow, and white sockets on the DVD player to the corresponding r/y/w on the satellite box with the supplied wires but that doesn’t work. Does anybody know of a website that can guide me through this? Preferrably with lots of pictures.
If the r/y/w plugs on the satellite are inputs, then you’ll need to tune the box to the input “channel”.
Otherwise, you could get one of these and hook both devices to the TV.
You need an RF modulator, like this one. It has an input for your coax cable from your cable box, as well as composite video inputs for your DVD player. It will output the DVD signal to either channel 3 or 4 on your TV.
Or you could do what we did when faced with the same problem—get a new and bigger TV.
Mhendo, I like your solution best. It’s my favorite method of acquiring new tools. However, in this case I’m going to take QEDs advice and opt for the RF Modulator. Found one on Ebay for a good price and it looks simple to install. Hope I don’t have to open this thread again. Thanks for the input.
How old is your TV? If it’s got only one RF connector, then I’m guessing it’s not too new. If you don’t go with a new TV then you will better off with QED’s suggestion.
