I have actually been selected to receive an award from my school district! I was pretty excited, and then I found out they’re going to plaster my picture in a powerpoint and a banquet program. Bummer, as I don’t consider myself to be particularly photogenic. I would have had some professionally made, but the organizers of this shindig gave me two days notice to put the picture in the mail to them. I guess they imagined (in their universe) that all classroom teachers have a portfolio of headshots in B&W glossy lying around. Luckily, the hubby is not a complete clod with a camera, and I have access to a decent photo printer in the media center at school. So we proceeded with the impromptu photoshoot in my living room. Now, I need impartial advice as to which photo is best. I can’t trust Stonebow because he’s convinced that all pictures of me are acceptable, silly man. They’re in black and white, because the programs are going to be printed that way. There’s one with my hair up, and one with my hair down. My main concerns are:
a) that I don’t look ancient
and
b) that I don’t look stupid
I would probably choose the hair down photo, unless you normally wear your hair up. Go with the photo that is more in keeping with your usual appearance, as it will look more “natural” to those who know you.
BTW, the difference between the two photos is minute. The hair down shot seems just a smidgen more relaxed.
Trite homily for the day - Those who matter don’t care, and those who care don’t matter.
Thanks for the replies, everyone. I think I will go with the hair down picture.
Danalan, the award is sort of a “Teacher of the Year” type thing, but it’s divided into certification areas. I won for Primary (K-3). Would it kill me to smile? Yes, yes it would. My cheeks get that chubby-happy chipmonk look when I smile. I wear my hair down and up about equally at school with up being saved for days when we’re gluing things.
