Help me find a bird feeder

Here’s my situation: I work at a desk all day (at home), which faces a window. I would really REALLY love to watch birds while I work. But there’s some problems…

  1. The window is 6’ off the ground on the outside of the house
  2. The window has a screen on the outside - so I can’t use a suction cup style feeder
  3. Those hanging pot holders don’t seem to be tall enough to hang a feeder where I could see it.
  4. There’s a roof overhang from which I could hang a feeder - but it’s at least 10’ up, so it’d be a chore to refill the food.
  5. The area below the window is a flower bed, with mulch and plants and stuff.
  6. The window’s about 5’ off the ground from the inside, and behind my desk. So changing the food from the inside might be a chore too (unless I cleaned off my desk and crawled up on it) and that is only if I permanently remove the screen.

I checked out this type of feeder as mentioned in this thread and it seems like a good solution for me. But I have to check the dimensions of my window and whatnot, remove the screen…and it’s kind of expensive. Plus, it’s on the front of my house so I’m not sure if I want to disrupt the flow of my front facade by installing one of those.

Any suggestions? I am hip to putting something on the overhang if you can suggest how I will be able to remove and refill it. The easier, the better.

What about mounting a little pully to the roof overhang with a string on it that holds the feeder? I have something like that on a tree behind my house… it’s easily 15’ up but I just undo the string, lower the feeder, fill it, and pull the string to bring it back up. Very easy.

If that doesn’t work, I’d encourage you to keep looking until you find something. I have one of those suction cup feeders on my office window, and it’s WONDERFUL. I love da birdies. Also have a suction cup woodpecker feeder and I get Pileated Woodpeckers on it, bloody amazing. And at night, if I’m working late, more than once I’ve gotten flying squirrels visiting me.
