A few years ago I heard a recording of the old song “Lord Randal”, and I think that it was newly brought to CD. I thought that they said it was by John McCormack (sp) but I haven’t had any success finding anything vaguely similar in any of his recordings. It may not be him, however, so I can’t swear to it. And, as I glide thru the Internet, I find that that may not always be the exact title.
Is there anyone out there that can help me find this?
IIRC, the ending bequest to his girlfriend is “A rope from Hell” rather than fire or smoke or pestilence, etc… Thank you for your helping out.
I’m moving this to the forum called Cafe Society, where I think you will find more people responding.
This might help…
Well, Harry Belafonte recorded it (nicely) a couple eons ago. It’s available on one of his greatest hits CDs.
I was wondering where the thread went!
I know it wasn’t Harry Belafonte-the singer was definitely someone from Her Majesty’s Dominion…or sounded like it.
I’ll check out the link that you posted. Thank you.
There’s a nice Steeleye Span version, but it dosen’t specify a “rope from hell” or anything.
