Help me get my hands on some salmiak!

And here’s their page of ‘salmiak’:

It has me a little intrigued too~finishing off my face with licorice lip balm for full effect.

I just generally get Katjes or Venco brand stuff as that’s what’s readily available here.

I grew up getting Fazer for Christmas.

I ordered some of the Fazer salmiakki pastilles you suggested in the IMHO thread!

I think I am also going to get one of the sampler boxes from Licorice International that @BippityBoppityBoo linked to here, and @Qadgop_the_Mercotan linked in same IMHO thread.

And possibly also some licorice soap, because why not?

This is a bit misleading-The man, who already had medical conditions due to many years of drug abuse, ate 2 pounds of licorice every day for a couple of weeks.

Well, of course it is. How else you gonna get someone to click on the video? I didn’t wanna spoil it!

Finally came in today!

Flavor is intense. Well, the saltiness is, anyway. Very unlike anything I’ve had before. Whereas I could sit down with a bag of “normal” licorice and eat the whole thing with no thought, I was limited to just two of the little salmiakki pastilles.

I would say that is a feature. Like the difference between milk “chocolate” and bars made of pure cacao, no added sugar.

It’s funny – for me it’s completely the opposite. I’m not a huge fan of regular licorice, but salmiak I can eat by the bucketload.

My long lost twin!

And today I can’t seem to stop eating it.

Heh. It’s addictive.

Yep. Good luck with that

And if you’re really into it, try a bottle of Salmiakki. It’s the effect of a bag of licorice and a bottle of wodka combined. Plus it’s opaque black, which is pretty cool.

That goes on the list! I’ll have to find it.

You can make your own, you just dissolve the candy in vodka, that’s how the liqueur was first made (and how my Finnish SCA acquaintances still make it).

Ha! I first ran into salmiakki while still in college, one of my housemates had a Finnish boyfriend and thus a supply. It’s not available in Holland. We once backpacked through Finland and the Baltics whilst stocked up on the stuff in Tallinn. It was dirt cheap there
For now we make do with black Sambuca which tastes quite similar and is available here. Good to know that the diy option’s available.

Here’s a link if you want to make your own

Tried some Fazer Super Salmiakki yesterday… It’s alright, but I don’t think the addition of menthol is a net positive, personally.

I also tried Pantteri; too sweet, I think.
