Help Me Guess My Co-Worker's First Name

I have a co-worker who writes her name a “M. Jane Smith.” Her first initial, M, is her given first name but she will tell nobody what it is. However, I have the following hints:

  1. It starts with M, obviously.
  2. Girls’ name.
  3. It is ugly and old and she hates it.
  4. She believes it is of English origin, or sounds like it at least.
  5. It rhymes with the name of an animal.

Any guesses? Note: “Melephant” and “Malligator” are definitely not correct.

[seinfeld]I’m guessing it isn’t Mulva.[/seinfeld]

Martha
Mabel
Mavis
Margaret
Millecent
Marion
Murtle - rhymes well with Turtle - this would be my first guess.

I was going to suggest Muriel but I can’t think of a rhyming animal.

Murtle is probably right.

Oh, God. MYRTLE. Of course!

Marrot
Muppy
Medgehog
Muffalo
Maven

MYRTLE

if ti’s not Myrtle then it could be Maureen.

What animal rhymes with Maureen?

Thylacine

Baleen whale!

Michael.

I don’t know why, but reading that caused me to start laughing uncontrollably here at work.

Mary Jane was a very popular name when I was a kid.

Any animals rhyme with Maud?

Cod?

My vote is Myrtle, Maude or Margaret - I know 3 women that go by their middle names rather than these.
