Help Me Make An Awesome Sandwhich

This may be the best thread since sliced bread… simply because you couldn’t have sandwiches before then.

Huh. I didn’t know you were German.

That “sliced bread” refers to a loaf that comes pre-sliced.
I suggest that the Earl had to slice his own. or have the help do it.

To get serious for a minute, my diet-friendly sandwich of choice these days is ham and swiss cheese on Jewish rye with hot mustard and fat-free Italian dressing. Surprisingly, the fat-free Italian dressing gives it a lot more taste than mayonnaise or Miracle Whip–and it’s better for you to boot. Simple, unassuming. You can toss in some lettuce and a couple of tomato or pickle slices too, if you’re significantly less lazy than I am.

I like to put canned (S&W) sliced stewed tomatoes on sandwiches. I drain them and sometimes pat off some of the juice. Works best with good bread.

BTW, a sweet cheese like havarti works well with light meats like turkey and chicken.

Another very popular American sandwich, particularly for breakfast, consists of scrambled eggs (cooked in one of those round things that shapes it so it doesn’t fall out everywhere), melted cheddar cheese and a breakfast meat (sausage or bacon) on a croissant. Gooooooooood shit. Addictive, too, but not good for you what with the fatty meat, the melted cheese and the buttery croissant.

Actually, to really incorporate the Midwest and American flavor into this I would also use some worcestershire sauce and powdered mustard (Colman’s). I think it might be remiss without these ingredients- amendment.

You could also substitute ground beef, instead of the leftover potroast, and make the “Classic American Sandwich”… a Sloppy Joe.

That Heinz Chili Sauce has lost favor somewhat over the years, but it gives many things an understated flavor that is just totally right in some weird way. A nice secret ingredient.

Turkey, Camembert cheese, cranberry sauce and alfalfa sprouts.

I would kill a man right now to get my hands on one of these.
