I am part of an online group that is studying about breeding thoroughbreds. We exchange articles, recommend books, and discuss the optimal matches for our broodmares.
Right now we just refer to it as “the breeding group.” But that just doesn’t sound right. Several times I have mentioned to other friends that I couldn’t do something because “I was tied up with my breeding group,” and have gotten some strange looks.
So I ask the creative minds here for suggestions. We are located across the country, mostly male, but some female, and are all in the same thoroughbred breeding syndicate. Something somewhat risque is fine, we all have a sense of humor, and know there are lots of jokes about studs, teaser ponies, etc. Or something plain and normal is fine too. But it needs to refer the breeding aspect, not just horses, as there are other horse-related online groups as well. We really need something other than, “the breeding group.”
Here is the Trekkie suggestion: The Gamesters of Triskellion
If you’re not familiar with the original series episode, this is the one where Kirk, Uhuru and Chekov are kidnapped by this alien race. These aliens use the specimens from all these different planets in bouts upon which they bet (hence the “gamesters”). hey pit different species against each other in these bouts to the death. They even breed their “stock” to ensure specimens for future competitions.
So I think you can see the parallels to your breeding group.
These are great!! Just what I was looking for. Since there are so many good ones, I am going to make a list for my group, and have them vote.
Thanks so much, I will let you all know what we end up with.
And several of these would make great names for racehorses as well.
Can’t you just see Studly Do-Right making a perfectly timed late move in the stretch? Just say Neigh, and Neigh-sayer would also be fun names.
Hello Mudder, Hello Fodder, would be great for horse’s with certain pedigrees.
And for the all women sydicates that are becoming popular, Foal Miner’s Daughters would work well for their racing stable name. Other fun racing stable names would be Seven Bridles for Seven Brothers, and Horse-faced and Brooding for a group with a sense of humor.
I know there are breeders who specialize in sires that have not done well at stud. Bridal Husbandry and Stable Conceptions would be great names for them.
And Foalish Pride gives me the idea of a play on the Derby winner, Foolish Pleasure, maybe Foalish Pleasure.
Thanks so much for the help. We will get busy picking a name for our group, as well as finding other uses for some of the creative ideas.
