Needed: Creative name for thoroughbred

Time to name the colt. My preference would be to follow the tradition of naming the horse with a reference to his sire, dam, sire’s sire or dam’s sire. This one is going to be tough, so I am asking the creative folks of the SDMB for help. I have seen your user names, so I know you can come up with something great.

The sire is Mutakddim. The folks in General Questions informed me this was most likely Arabic and means “advancing forward, “” the one in front” “preceding.”

The dam is Conway Kitty. I am guessing a play on Conway Twitty.

The dam’s sire is El Prado. Which in spanish means “meadow” or “lawn.”

The sire’s sire is Seeking the Gold, whose sire is Mr. Prospector

So far I have come up with, “Advancing Lawn,” which is quite terrible, but is growing on me, no pun intended. So I could really use your help.

The Jockey Club must approve the name, so vulgar, suggestive, obscene, etc. names will not be approved. Some owners see this as a challenge though and try to sneak some by. Which explains, the track record setter “Isitingood.” (Which I was tempted to use as my user name.)

The name cannot be more than 18 characters, including spaces and punctuation.

So any suggestions? Since this one may be difficult, I may opt for just something funny to name a horse. i.e., “also ran.” I think it would be amusing every time he came in fourth, the Daily Racing Form would read: also ran: also ran. And anything that would be funny to hear the track announcer say would be good too. i.e., “Shh Hush” always gets attention, then giggles from the crowd when the announcer mentions him.

Thanks for your help. If the name you suggest is picked, you could get bragging rights for naming the 2007 Triple Crown winner!

The Flying Yeti.

Hello Darlin’ (Conway Twitty Hit)
Hewwo Puddy Tat (Plays on above plus Conway Kitty)

I had the same trouble when I was naming my colt. The Jockey Club approved my 3rd choice. With yours I’d suggest “Front Lawn” or “Meadow Gold”. I’m not terribly imaginative.

Have you considered “Kudzu?” the rapidly advancing lawn weed of the South?

El Prado is also the name of a very famous museum in Madrid, Spain. Between that and Seeking the Gold my mind wanders to:

National Treasure
Golden Masterpiece
Prospector’s Art
Artful Treasure
Seek and Ye Shall Find

And my own personal favorite:
Found Art

Dim Kitty
Mutaway
the lawn ranger
kitty clippings
running grasses
golden clipper
grass breaker
steeped in glory
merry meadow
meadowmaker
gilt trip
aureate now
augetoffofmycloud
karat and schtick
karat that weight
karat top
lawn dry day
lawn about dawn
treasure meadow
gilty pleasure

I like ‘Front Lawn’, but what would you call the little guy?

‘Kudzu’ is also good, but I’ve learned the simple names are usually taken, so maybe ‘Advancing Kudzu’. ‘Conquering Kudzu’?

And referencing the dam’s name…‘I thought I saw a puddy tat’ is way too long, and they might think ‘puddy tat’ is meant to be vulgar. Hmm. ‘Conway Tweety’?

lawn dart!

To hell with tradition!

"Now approaching the starting gate…Teeming Millions!

Convoy

I vote for Monkey Spunk, if only because it would be awesome to hear over the PA system.

“Coming up from the rear, it’s Monkey Spunk!”

How about “NoGlueBoy”, named after a Doper with a similar sounding name?

I once had a buddy whose last name was Hogle. He hated his name because it sounds like it’s coming from the back of the throat, so it’s really hard to hear in a crowd.

So, when he would put his name on a waiting list at a restaurant, he would say his last name was Finkledorfer. he loved hearing the hostess say “Finkledorfer party, please!”

So that’s my vote. See you at Keeneland.

How about:

Mine the gap (as in Gold mine)

Kitty Litter (speaks for itself!)

Spanish Gold (Prado is the Spanish art museum)

Leading the field (As in preceeding, plus Prado = field)

Sex Kitten (Conway Twitty movie)

Why not combine the name of the sire and the dam and give a little nod to one of America’s most underrated comic geniuses:

Dim Conway

And for a stable name, you can call him “Dorf”…

Saladin’s Gold
Alp Arslan (The great Turkish general, his name means “brave lion”)
Faster Pussycat (My favorite)
Salam Kitty (Salam is Arabic for “hello”)
Manzikert (Alp Arslan’s greatest victory)

Mr. Prospector??? Impressive.

Golden Prospect
Meadow Cat
Mr. Kitty
El prado de oro

Cash up front
Go for the Gold
Llano en Llamas (they’ll never pronounce this one, unless they’re fans of Juan Rulfo - it means basically ‘Fields afire’)
Ahead of the Pack
