Anyway, a few years ago they tore down the kiosk, redecorated the top part of the station, and rebuilt this beautiful new kiosk, with rainbow-coloured pillars. If I’m not mistaken, a metro station so decorated in the gay village is completely unique in the world. Mad props to the STCUM and the city of Montreal.
Anyway, the problem is that the platforms of the station are totally fucking ugly. They’ve still got these icky white and brown tiles on the wall from 35 years ago; someone once described the station as looking like a sewer catacomb. It’s gross.
Anyway, now that Montreal has gotten the 2006 Gay Games,, I think it’s time that the station be redecorated and spruced up once and for all. Come on - this is gay Montreal! We have to be doubly stylish! We can do better than this.
I need suggestions! I’ll open the bidding by noticing what the metro logo looks like if it’s rotated 135 degrees counterclockwise.
Oh, and: happy 6000 posts to me! Confetti, naked guys, etc.
Personally, I really dig those “water walls” with hidden spouts at the top of the wall and hidden drains on the bottom. It would hide the ugly tile, and spotlights on the water can be changed from color to color for variety. How cost-prohibitive something like this would be I don’t know.
On the other hand—6000 posts! Wow! I’m in awe, really. I’ve been here over a year and am still limping my way towards 100.

As far as redocorating metro stations…how about painting all the walls white and then leaving out yellow, pink, blue and green highlighterss. You let the people draw things on the white walls with the highlighters. The most important thing is to have the walls bathed in black light. On second thought, I don’t think that is gay as much as it is for people taking acid.
As a fellow Montrealer, I can only agree that Beaudry needs to be renovated. Of course, it’s not the only ugly station, but I guess we can’t renovate all of them.
Renovating the station for the 2006 Gay Games is a good idea. Maybe there would be a way to renovate a couple more, that would be even better. The Parc, St-Laurent and Guy-Concordia stations are only some of the stations I’m thinking of. Some of them have a nice kiosk, but the platform and the inside of the stations are either ugly or boring.
I don’t know what color scheme you were thinking about for the station. Would the shape of the ceiling and all stay the same? Would we keep the moving sidewalk? I mean, it’s fun, but just too slow! Now, if there were two, side by side, one going slow and the other one going faster, a bit like in Aasimov’s Caves of Steel…
Ender: No; it’s just that (Montreal in-joke) instead of playing “Fanfare for the Common Man” when they start up, the trains play “I Will Survive”.
k.os: I kinda envisioned just taking the station as it exists and redecorating it, without excessively major structural changes. That said, I think Belladonna’s water curtain idea is kewlies.
