It’s been driving me crazy because I can’t remember what movie it was. Basically a dude and his friends went to hustle pool but ended up finding another hustler. And I remember a bit of the dialog that went mostly like “So how good is he?” “Much better than he was 5 minutes ago”
Looks like an interesting movie, one worth watching. But Netflix doesn’t have it and that seems silly — it’s a basic movie, not a blockbuster, only 60% on Rotten Tomatoes per wiki, for criminy sakes!
Thank you, I am going to have to find that somewhere just to straighten out my mind.
Because I have the scene confused into some other movie I guess… Sean Penn definitely fits my memory. Nick cage does not. I had it placed it in a movie about boot camp recruits rather than high school dating.
Wiki says, of the Penn and Cage characters, that “Henry ‘Hopper’ Nash is a small town boy who has been drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps and is about to serve overseas. He is close friends with Nicky, who is also about to be deployed.”
For the cheapskates: JustWatch says it’s streaming free on Kanopy, which your public library may subscribe to. I recommend the service if you can get it free.
There is a very similar scene in The Hustler where Fast Eddie Felson is hustling a bunch of local guys, and their mocking of him makes him mad so he destroys them rather than hiding his talent, resulting in getting his fingers broken.
Although the movie highlighted mostly straight pool, in the scene where he’s hustling the townies they are playing 9-ball.
