Help me remove this pesky spyware toolbar

Ok. Here’s the deal.

My GF has been surfing porn sites. Really, she has. ;j

Anyway, she managed to install a “Lesbian Toolbar,” and the thing won’t go away.

I can hide it with the view>Toolbars feature of Explorer, but I can’t delete it.

She is running Windows ME.

I have tried using Add/Remove Programs, but when I do that the offending toolbar program simply gets de-selected.

The program apparently does not live in the programs folder, or at least I can’t find it there

I am running out of ideas. Can anyone help?

Well, the obvious choice is to use Ad-ware or any other spyware removal software.

The other option is to move from Windows Me to 2000 or XP. Really. ME is about the crappiest Windows out there, the bane of Microsoft.

Me has nothing to do with it; you’d get the same spyware with any version of Windows.

Ad-Aware is a good first step. If that doesn’t work, try Spybot S&D.

If there’s still a problem, search for hijackthis, run the program, and post the log at http://www.spywareinfo.com.

Sorry to hear about the “Lesbian Toolbar.” Let us know when you have got the problem licked.

So…your girlfriend has been surfing lesbian websites? How do you feel about that?

Lesbian Toolbar.

There’s a song here. Something along the lines of “Lesbian Seagull”.

I’ve been using Windows ME since 2000 and have never had a problem.

My thinking exactly.

Tried both of these already. No dice.

How do I stop my BF from hiding my lesbian toolbar?

Ok. Here’s the deal.

My BF has been messing around with the computer. Really, he has.

Anyway, I managed to install a “Lesbian Toolbar,” and my BF keeps on hiding it.

I can unhide it with the view>Toolbars feature of Explorer, but he keeps on hiding it again.

He is running Windows ME.

He keeps on using Add/Remove Programs, but when he does that the toolbar program simply gets de-selected. And I have to un-hide it all again

I am running out of ideas. Can anyone help?

Go into the Startup menu and try finding the thing in there first. Or look in the task manager. Once you find the name of the item that created the toolbar you can do a Google search and look for a site that deals with removing it. If that doesnt work then do a file search using the name of the program (assuming you found it in the startup list or under the TM) and find the folder it occupies. Try deleting the folder. If that doesnt work then open the folder and try to delete individual files one at a time. What you’re trying to do is destroy the program. I’ve had to do this before when the wife (really) got the computer gunked up with some similar thing.

Lose the boyfriend . . . oh wait . . . Andrea???

I killed it!!! Ha!

For those like Go You Big Red Fire Engine who want a Lesbian Toolbar, you can get it at www.lesbiantoolbar.co*[URL truncated to avoid accidental work access or installation, which would be bad].

Of course this, and other toolbars, is brought to you by www.nichetoolbars.co*[same deal as above], which is owned by beano pubishing [sic] , LLC

Thanks Beano . . . .

That’s ok. You don’t want it anyway. No softball or Indigo Girls links . . .
