Help Me With a List of Great Monster Music

‘… and his hair was perfect.’

damn but i love that song. rest in well-deserved peace, mister zevon. that song is one of the few i actuallly sing along with - not that you want to hear my singing.

and now for something a little more classical. my long-ago forever knight appreciation society listmembers recommended this one - and i bought it. it’s been played a lot in the years since, most recently at my '07 halloween bash.

‘vampire circus,’ by silva screen records, ltd., is a dandy instrumental collection from mostly film, complete with an appropriately blood-spattered cd, no less. :stuck_out_tongue: not all of these movies were uh, good, but the music is inspired in some and just plain fun in others.

sundown and fright night are two of my favorites off this little gem.

No one’s mentioned “Thriller” - Michael Jackson?

Let’s not forget Dave Edmunds’ “Creature From The Black Lagoon”.

“Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots” by Flaming Lips
“Mutants of the Monster” by Black Oak Arkansas
“Jellyfish” by String Cheese Incident
“Monster” by Steppenwolf

“No Shelter” - Rage Against the Machine (vaguely about Godzilla)
“Riders on the Storm” - The Doors

And yet they neglected Say Hi To Your Mom’s “Impeccable Blahs” which is ten songs about vampires on one album (although I’m not quite so sure about track 4).

And a good portion of the output of the Misfits and King Diamond fits the bill.

It seems like a lot more Oingo Boingo would fit; “No Spill Blood” and “No One Lives Forever” definitely do at least.

Rob Zombie: “Dragula,” “Living Dead Girl.”

Well, since you have “She Blinded Me With Science,” I’ll add Dr. Heckyll and Mr. Jive by Men At Work as a fun companion for that one.

I’ve been listening to the suggestions that have been made. Some great stuff here, thanks, everyone!
As a bonus, I’ve found a recording on You Tube for another song that I like, but haven’t been able to find for myself: Dawson’s Christian.

The Thing that Only Eats Hippies, by Dead Milkmen
Everything Evil by Coheed and Cambria (okay, what they’re really repeating is “Evil MONSTAR,” but with Claudios hundred of ways to pronounce “the”, how can you really be sure?)

“Ghostbusters”, by Ray Parker Jr.

Lullaby - The Cure

Judy Garland’s cover of “Purple People Eater” is truly terrifying in a fun sort of way.

“Haunted House” by Jumpin’ Gene Simmons

"“Li’l Red Riding Hood” by Sam the Sham and the Pharohs

“When You’re Evil” by Voltaire

Otto, I think that’s the first suggestion in this thread that sounds truly frightening.

I’ve got to find it, now!

Also “Nosferatu”, from the same album.

It’s on her 25th Anniversary retrospective.

“The Blob” – Burt Bacharach [perf. by “The Five Blobs”]. The theme song to the '50’s monster movie, it’s included in the Burt Bacharach box set.

Frank Zappa gave us Cheepnis, Billy The Mountain, The Torture Never Stops, and Zomby Woof.

Free Form Guitar on Chicago’s first album is not identified as monster music, but it always seemed that way to me.

Check out the rest of that album while you’re at it.

Also “Brains!”
