Help! MS Word is not recognizing font choice

I’m typing an outline for a project, with automatic numbering based on indentation. I have 12 point Times New Roman bold selected for the font, but it’s displaying in what appears to be 10-point pica, as if it had been done on a typewriter. WTF is going on? I’ve never seen this behavior before.

OTOH, WordPad does provide the rich text appearance and bolding, but doesn’t provide list numbering and so forth, which is also essential.

Here’s one possibility. The exact location of this option might be different depending on your version of Word (I’m using 2003), but hopefully you’ll get the general idea.

Go to Tools->Options and click the View tab. Right down the bottom is a Draft Font check box, and my guess is that it’s checked. Uncheck it and click OK.
