Help! Need gift advice...

…for my mother, who is turning (mumble mumble) this year.

Whenever she’s gone traveling, she’s always brought me back a little souvenir in the shape of a heart–I’ve got a heart-shaped keychain, a glass heart, a heart necklace…

Can anyone think of something really cool that’s heart-related?

Can you describe any of her other interests, Kythereia? I think that the heart-motif would be a good accent or lens for the gift, but with just that go on, I keep falling back on what I’d call heart-shaped kitsch. Which isn’t necessarily bad, but does seem a little bland. What’s special when it’s a heart-shaped item from overseas or far away just doesn’t seem quite as special when it’s from home. Unless there’s some other factor that would appeal to her to make it special.

(And, somehow, the idea of a plastic anatomical heart model, while appealing to the geek in me, just seems like it would be so wrong for most people.)

How about a donation to the Heart Foundation, or your local Cardiac ward in her name?

Just a thought…

I don’t know your religious beliefs, and they’re more common for romantic love, but a mizpah?

Or you could strategerize by getting her a charm bracelet. That way in years future, you can add charms around themes important to her.

I have a sister in law who’s a freekin’ nut about hearts. I found a bunch of websites that sell heart-shaped stones. I picked up a heart-shaped covered bowl on E-bay and we buy her beads and stones to fill it with.

Google “glass hearts” and “heart-shaped beads” and you’ll find a ton of stuff.

How about a mumble mumble? It’s the best thing you’ve ever seen.

I just purchased this one for my SIL (she’s having major back surgery next week).

Thanks for the reminder!!

Have you considered a heart shaped wooden puzzle box? I have a bit of a thing for wooden boxes and have a couple that are puzzle boxes. Just as examples, one in the shape of a heart could be found at this website. Another can be found here. Depending on what you want to spend, you could also pair this with something for her to find inside the box once she solves the “puzzle”.
