I was just getting dressed a couple minutes ago, zipping up my denim skirt. Got it about 4/5ths of the way up when I felt a painful tug and realized part of my skin got caught in the metal zipper.
Now, to those of you unfortunate enough to have experienced this, what’s the best way to free myself? As is, it doesn’t really hurt as long as I don’t move. I tried to gently tug my skin away, and it hurts. Tried to unzipper, and it hurt even more. I’m wondering whether I ought to zip the rest of the way up, but I’m scared to try. I’m not really sure how much of me is caught, maybe a centimeter?
I’m thinking about just going about my day, forgetting about it, until a sudden unexpected movement does the work for me, but I don’t really relish the thought :(.
You might want to get a friend to do it. I stuck myself with a fishhook once and couldn’t muster the strength to yank it out of me. It didn’t hurt or anything, but my “don’t kill yourself” reflex was kicking in. My friend was able to yank it out without a problem though.
Thank you for the advice. I am okay and have freed myself, though I have a small, puffy patch of skin from where the zipper was. with one hand on the zipper and the other holding the side of my hip down, I was able to free myself by unzipping quickly. Hurt like a mofo, but life goes on.
It must not have been too painful, considering the amount of time it took you to post your OP.
Next time this happens tie a piece of string to the zipper pull tab and the other end to the door knob. Then slam the door, hard. Hey, if it works for human teeth, then it should be a piece of cake with zipper teeth.
“We got a bleeder!” is accurate. Never got the beans above the frank, but you learn that replacing things and zipping up is a job best done slowly. Rushing to catch the train/friends/etc. can only end in disaster.
Now we know it’s over with, I just have to mention, this is a perfect example of why we wear slips under our skirts. Then, you just catch fabric which is much less painful to release Not that I wear skirts, tbh, I only were slacks anymore, but when I did wear dresses and skirts, I wore a slip underneath.
Seriously, that’s what underwear (including a slip) is for, at least in part.
