Help: Thunderbird/Firebox mail problem with new cable modem

OK, after years of pokey ol’ dialup, finally bit the bullet and ordered cable broadband. It’s amazingly fast and downloads are so quick can’t believe it. Everything works, can go to any site, and anything as before. Great, but…

Am till using my old ISP site for email, using Firebox and Thunderbird mail. When go to check new mail as before, it will not get the mail, and eventually times out. Also, cannot send mail, even though am keeping the ISP for a while until everything works. When I still dialup, mail works, but not with the cable modem.

I’ve gone to the Tools/Options, but don’t see anything that might make a difference. Called Cox techie, but they have no sugestions. Can’t blame 'em for not knowing about T’Bird.

Is there some change am supposed to make to differentiate between dialup and cable? If so, where and how?

I’m assuming your ISP for cable and dial-up are different?

Likely your dial-up ISP doesn’t allow POP access to its mail servers from outside its network for security reasons. No setting you can change in Thunderbird or otherwise is going to let you access your email if this is the case.

Call your dial-up ISP to verify this. At that point you can ask them to change their access policy (unlikely to work), ask them to forward your email to a different account (more likely), or use their webmail access (assuming they have one).
