Help with god-awful ring tones on new cell phone

I’m a T-mobile customer and I purchased a Samsung t319. The phone’s OK except that it has no basic ring tones; all of the installed tones are dancy, boppy, and outright annoying when eminating from a cell phone. The downloadable choices from T-mobile are no better.

I asked T-Mobile’s customer support what my options were and they suggested downloading Samsung’s ring tone editor, which I did. But as far as I can tell, I can’t use the software to create a ringtone that sounds like a phone ringing.

Any suggestions? I’d provide my cell number for replies but if I have to hear that thing ring one more time, I’ll go bat-shit insane.

Can it play mp3s as tones?

I don’t think so. The phone does not have an MP3 player feature. I think the ring tone files are in .png format.

Well, a lot of phones can play MP3 tones and are not considered MP3 players, so that doesn’t mean much.

In any case, I see from this page: http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/phones/Detail.aspx?device=57883131-84e5-4c2b-8e85-e37a0d0e9fd8 that it supports “HiFi Ringers®”. A search of “HiFi Ringers®” comes up with http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/addons/services/TzonesDetail.aspx?tp=Svc_Tab_TZones&tsp=Svc_Sub_Music&tssp=Svc_Sub_HiFiRingers : “There’s no substitute for the real thing. HiFi Ringers are just that-excerpts from real songs by today’s hottest artists.”

MP3 format or not, where I’m going with this is that maybe you can record or find an MP3 of telephone ringing, and convert it to your phone’s format and send it to the phone to use as a ringer.

Perhaps a perusal of the phone’s manual will describe how to send sound files to the phone to use as ringtones. On my Motorola RAZR, I can send mp3 files to the phone via Bluetooth and after it receives the file it prompts me if I want to use it as a ringtone.

Of course, I don’t know what sounds your T-Mobile system offers, but I do note that on mine, on the Ringtone page, I can choose Voices and Sounds, then SoundFX, then Gizmos & Machines to the Old Telephone Ring ring tone.

At this website, you can send text sound files downloaded on your computer to your phone and use them as ring tones. The service is free.

A quick Googling turned up this page of sound files including a 1920’s style phone ring. With a little more Googling I’m sure you’ll be able to find a more modern telephone ring that you can text to your phone.

Genius, sheer genius, PP. I didn’t check for telephone ring under sound effects.

Hi Choosy,

I am a sales manager for T-mobile. If you drop me a line with what kind of rings you are looking for I’ll find the link and get it to you asap. If you are just looking for a selection you can access your T-zones (again drop me a line if you need help with that) and go to sounds and downloads.

I have a few off site places that I can recommend if you have specifics of what you want.

Thanks for the offer. How do I drop you a line? My email address is in my user profile. Feel free to contact me.
