I need 8-12 weeks worth of decent movies and good books. I’m having an unexpected surgery on thursday, involing bone grafts and other metal screws and recovery time is expected 8-12 weeks. What am I going to be doing in bed for 8-12 weeks?
any ideas??
God this sucks. Truly a tale of woe. Over my birthday too. Now I have to quit my job. Oh lordy.
Buy a Gameboy Advance and Advance Wars and Mario Kart.
Oh, wow, how awful for you!
May I suggest Just an Ordinary Day, a collection of short stories by Shirley Jackson (author of The Lottery and The Haunting of Hill House)? Most of the stories are 3-4 pages long, and range from the bizarrely humorous to the quietly eerie. I’d send you the copy I’m reading, but the library might get a bit cheesed off at me if I did.
I’m guessing that the doctors will have you on some really kickin’ painkillers, at least for the first couple of weeks. So as far as movies go, I’ve got three words for you: CHEECH AND CHONG!
Hope everything goes well and you feel better soon!
For movies, I’d have to make a recommendation of: Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. It’s a wonderful movie in the period vein, based loosely on Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Stars Gary Oldman, Tim Roth, and Richard Dreyfus…very funny and it’s the kind of movie you need to watch 2 or 3 times in order to catch everything.
Books:
Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. It should cheer you up to no end.
Glen Cook’s Black Company series if you want something involving.
Only things I can come up with off the top of my head. Best of luck with your surgery and recovery. That sounds like a tough thing to look forward to.
