Helping Military Folk

Okay, I try not to post too much stuff, but this is important… As some of you might know I volunteer with animal shelters, and this is something I’d never thought of before… and now it is happening.

Many animal shelters and humane societies are being flooded with calls from soldiers that are leaving to fight and have to leave their pets behind. This need is overwhelming and the shelters cannot do this alone. It may not be a big deal to some, but it will be to the soldier that loves their pet and must leave it behind.

These terrorist attacks have affected everyone and everything, from the biggest to the smallest. If you are looking for ways to help, fostering or keeping a soldier’s pet is a good way to do that.

If you cannot adopt or foster, funds to keep animals alive and healthy until they can be adopted are also a great help. Please contact your local shelter and do what you can.

This link is a partial listing of the shelters in your area:

Or, contact the humane society in your county, especially if you live anywhere near a military base. It will likely be listed under your county name’s listing in the white pages.

Also, hundreds of pets were stranded and left without owners as a result of the attacks on the World Trade Center and also the Pentagon. For more information on how you can help these animals, visit the links below:

Thanks for listening, and please help,

thanks for the informative post!

I’m so glad you brought this up. My husband and I are facing the prospect of both being deployed/called up. I sure hope we don’t have to resort to taking out two kittens to the animal shelter.

I hope you find help! It is difficult enough to have to go, without having your heart completely broken first. I do the website for a shelter in Alabama that is near a big base, and the shelter director is really worried about being able to handle it all.

Maybe if you are called you could put a classified advertisement in the newspaper and mention your dilemma… I’m sure that would be more effective than just saying ‘free kittens…’

I’m giving this a bump for all those who are going to be at work today, since it fell off the active board before Monday got into full swing.

Hope it’s okay to bumpity-bump your own thread. I’m sure someone will holler at me if it’s not.
