Dogs are cool, I like puppies. Rabbits are just fat little fuckers that sit there being all useless and shit.
Oh…:smack: Yeah, that was totally intentional…

He HAS the money, he just doesn’t want to touch it.
If he had posted it as I have the funds but don’t want to touch the account so could I get 100 people to each lend me $30 and I’ll pay you back with the overtime I am going to work for the next few months until everyone is paid back, it wouldn’t have gone over like a lead balloon.
If the condo doesn’t allow window units, then he can’t have one. Putting one up anyway could result in a fine from the association or a pumped up labor bill for removal.
I’ll repost here what I said in the other thread:
Shoot, there are free standing evaporative units that don’t even use an exhaust port. I don’t think Lute wants to solve the problem. I think he just wants money. He has some kind of asset of which he said “we really prefer not to touch”.
He resists creative ideas, won’t talk to the condo board, and won’t touch an asset that he has access to. He doesn’t want to fix the problem himself. He wants strangers to throw money at it to make it go away.
FWIW, I used to have two bunnies and when it got hot, and I had no AC (still don’t), I would mist them with a water bottle. They enjoyed that quite a bit.
If it was really hot, I would put a pan of water down and they would go sit in it.
Seriously - house rabbits can manage just fine in 90 degree heat if they have adequate water and you don’t put their hutch in direct sunlight.
It makes me wonder if some of the two footed household members may be jonesin’ for the AC a bit more than the bunnies…
It also would have been nice if Lute would have had the decency to be upfront and tell us in his OP that the money would go to keeping a rabbit cool instead of making us think that it was some dire emergency.
You could argue that if he revealed that upfront, he’d have gotten no donations at all, but I’d just say if that’s why he conveniently omitted that part, why did he reveal it at all?
I tried to be helpful in the other thread. But I think this is the telling quote.
I think being comfortable is important too. But under no definition is it an emergency.
The traditional method for keeping a rabbit cool involves nothing more complicated than plonking it in a bucket of water.
For three grand, you’d probably be able to get a gold plated bucket filled with Perrier, but I’m fairly certain a plastic bucket (or sink) filled with tap water will do the job just as well.
“Lute, trust your chutzpah!”
I’m really disappointed the mods ok’d that thread. I thought seeking mod permission was to allow them to weed out the frivolous, pathetic and greedy grabs for cash, and yet here we are with a “I want $3000 air conditioning for my rabbit so I don’t have to dip into my savings” thread.
I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. He said his savings was going to be used to pay for the labor. I’m assuming the money he would rather not touch is a 401k or something like that.
So he gets broke animal lovers like Broomstick to donate what is probably part of her grocery money so he doesn’t have to touch his 401K? That takes some nerve.
I got nailed hard with taxes this year… my options are:
1)take all friggin’ year paying them off.
2)sell my car and walk to work (about 23 miles one way).
3)get someone online to send me a whole whack of money…
So anyone wanna send me a check?
I didn’t say it was right. Just that it probably isn’t just making a bank withdrawal. But many funds have a way to take low interest loans from it so you don’t suffer the tax penalty.
Well, maybe. What pets you got?
Got a dumb-looking dog named Zoidberg… probably a few fleas…
ETA: If the reserve IS his 401k, then I fully understand not wanting to touch it… I withdrew some from my 401k to move cross-country, and that’s why I now owe such a huge tax bill! I knew it was gonna hurt; just not how bad.
What if the rabbit needed breast implants?
I rarely post in the Pit, but this dude has me royally pissed off.
I, too am mystified as to just how in hell the mods allowed Lute Skywatcher to post that thread.
Lute,, listen up. I’m a husband and father of two. I work part time as a hospice worker, my wife works part time as a preschool teacher. Both of us are full-time college students.
So, between us we make less than an one 40/wk job earning minimum wage, which in Oregon is $8.80/hr. Between school and work we are away from home approx. 60 hrs a week each.
Despite this, we: A) pay our bills on time, B) have no debt except some small medical bills, and manage to do this C) without accepting handouts from friends/family/strangers/charity. How? We have no cable TV. We have no internet connection (use public or school library or public wifi). We have basic cellular phone service and do not have a landline. We have not seen the inside of real restaurant in several years. For that matter we haven’t seen the inside of a cheap fast food joint in several years. Its sandwiches and cold cereal or you don’t eat. Beans and rice, cooked at home. Lotsa veggies which are cheap and healthy to boot. We do not have car payments and pay for bare-bones insurance. Like most poor families, our daycare needs are met by generous family members (I guess you could call that family charity) or a local YMCA-type nonprofit childcare center.
In fact, I started a thread here some time ago asking car-savvy dopers if I should junk my old POS car or replace. Two pages of replies said overwhelmingly that I needed a new car. Well, that old POS is still in the driveway. See, I don’t have money for a new car, despite the fact that it would be exponentially safer for my two boys, age 5 and 8, to ride in a much newer vehicle. What little I had saved had to go to a doctor’s bill. Did I mention I have to drive them approx. 20 miles to school each day? Yeah. But guess what? I never came here asking for money for a new car so my kids would be safe. But you’re here asking for a shitload of money for goddamn central air so your fluffy little bunnies can stay cool. $3000 would get my boys into a nice, safe car. Give me fucking break. (Not that I’m against fluffy bunnies. But perhaps [not perhaps. Almost certainly] they need to be living with someone who does not need to panhandle to be able to take care of them.)
You said you worked. Good. Take some time, work some overtime, and save up the money you need. Or, dip into your savings, then use your next three months of overtime to replace those lost funds. Quit yer fuckin’ begging on the streetcorner, especially since you’ve made it clear that you have the financial means at your disposal to repair your AC.
If someone doesn’t send me $900 for a new 64 gig iPad 3, I personally swear that I will go out, find a bunny and kill it. And then make hasenpfeffer.
This guy just keeps getting worse. From the other thread (bolding mine):
He can finance it! The asshole is asking for money so he doesn’t have to pay fucking interest charges. Douchebag!
+1.
