It was hard to miss him too much. He made an appearance in two episodes of Season 3.
Whether or not that turns out to be true, that is an epically brilliant piece of fanwankery.

Not that it may mean anything, but I did see an interview with Moffat in which he stated that Moriarty was absolutely dead - blew his brains out. Sure sounded like he was shutting the door on that. Nobody ever thought Sherlock was really dead, except John of course.
Hmph. Means nothing. Every Doctor Who fan knows: Moffat Lies.

Here’s the first solid indication , from Mark Gatiss’s twitter feed, of which Arthur Conan Doyle story will be referenced in the upcoming special. Mark likes to take photos of items on the filming set and post them to give the fans something to squee over.
