Here's what Ryan Reynolds looks like as the Green Lantern

You’re serious?

I think it looks green from the glow emanating from the ring (and his suit, which is awesome, by the way).

I think his hair looks green from the glow of the ring. If you look at the link on that page of the embiggened picture, his hair looks relatively normal on the other side.

They are still filming this movie here in New Orleans. We keep getting emails from casting companies looking for extras for these big scenes they are currently filming.

So I’ve got low standards for the GL costume, sue me. I just don’t like the look of a costume that looks like it’s out of an anatomy book.

So, I’m guessing that you were similarly turned off by this? And this?

You say that like it’s a bad thing. :o

Hells yeah. I’m definitely onboard with the Ryan Reynolds indecent exposure thing. The more the better. The man’s hotter than liquid sex.

The mask is weird - if you look at the high res image, the mask provides shape and depth to the eye sockets, but at the same time looks painted on: you can see his skin pores through the mask (look at his nose and cheeks specifically).

Well, this should kill his career.

I like it.

Was there something wrong with the classic costume? Really?

I’m in the minority here in that I don’t hate it.

Simply awful.

I think he looks like a retard. Not a Green Lantern fan, however, so take that with a grain of salt.

No. I don’t like those either, but I was complaining about the fact that the costume seems meant to resemble the grain of the muscle. Hence the comment about looking flayed, since that’s not the sort of detail that is normally visible.

You’re in the minority here, but most of the posters here are comics/GL fans.

They’re not the target audience. They’re the captive audience – that demographic has proven, time and again, that they’ll go see the movie anyway no matter how much they complain about it.

The target audience is the “mainstream” audience. They’re the audience for which the costumes of Batman, the X-Men, etc. were changed. Those were the successful comic book movies. Spider-Man was about the only successful movie I can think of that used the comic costume largely unchanged.

The movies that were faithful to the comic costumes – Fantastic Four, Daredevil – weren’t very good and looked fairly silly besides.

I’m a GL fan, but thank Og they’re going with a costume that is adapted to the medium, rather than sticking with one for a different medium. And, it doesn’t look as horribly plastic as the Thor costume does, so bonus.

I was just coming here to say the same thing. Excellent point.

Superman and Watchmen (for about half the costumes) need to be on that list, too.

Yeah, Watchman was good and about half the costumes were faithful and still looked okay – Rorschach, particularly (but then, not much of a “comicy” costume). Nite Owl’s changes looked better, but Silhouette looked ridiculous.

Superman… one good movie (II), ridiculous costume. (mind you, I’m not sure what have been an improvement while remaining iconic)

Comic superhero costumes are all kinda hit-and-miss, though. Take a look at what poor Wonder Woman is going through now, for example.

Speaking of ol’ Supes, I wonder if, back when they changed his costume from this to this, there was the same amount of pillow biting that there is nowadays. Probably not, I’d wager.
