Heroes 10/08/07 - "Kindred"

Well, I was really disappointed and I usually consider “Heroes” one of the big highlights of my week (yes, I am that sad). I felt like I’d sat down to Christmas dinner to find out I was being served baked beans on toast.

The bad:

Far, far too many interminable scenes of the twins getting separated, Maya going oily-eyed and her brother rescuing her. Oh and Maya being willing to kill if she didn’t get her own way? How nice.

West. Add me to the list of haters. His flying stunt seemed somewhat akin to a non superhero bundling someone into their car and driving off. Especially combined with the stalking. And because of this jerk, Claire is now giving Mr B evil looks again? Sigh.

No Nathan or Angela Petrelli. As these are easily my favourite characters in the show, their absence was a huge disappointment. Were the two minutes per episode of screentime they’ve been getting since the start of the season deemed to be eating into valuable footage of the Wonder Twins? Boo!

Peter. Just open the box and go home - you are stuck in a dull storyline. You can play at being Dark Phoenix in Manhattan just as easily as you can in Cork and I’m sure your return will cheer Nathan up no end.

Hints of the forthcoming death of Mr Bennet. NOOOOO!!

The good:

Jack Coleman rocks. That is all.

Here’s hoping for a better episode next week.

Maybe they can have Nimoy come in for a few episodes and play, like, the Ghost of Sylar Future. That would be pretty sweet.

All right, I decided to jump on the Heroes bandwagon last week. However, I’m terminally confused. Mrs. Magill has put the season 1 on my Christmas list, but I’m too impatient to wait two and a half months to figure out who’s who.

Could anyone recommend a primer?

Read the TWoP recaps or the Wikipedia articles.

Is the Irish chick a Hero? I got the implication that Peter may have picked up some of his power from her (though his fantastic butt-lines are all his).

And how I wish they would let a Whedon have this show. Pay the creator well, but damn… Mr. Muggles shitting fire on the carpet or a new Hero played by George “Goober” Lindsey whose power is a perfect impression of a piccolo would be better than most of the plots they’re giving airtime.

Eh? Everything I’ve seen shows Hero with great ratings and that the network is still thrilled with it.

I have to agree. I gave up last year after one episode, only to be pulled in a month later by my wife and friends who stuck it out. I was glad I did. I really can’t tell what everyone is looking for from every episode and every segment. Sure, some fall flat, but overall it is interesting…ok, maybe not the Wonder Twin segments, but the rest is interesting.

I’m guessing this season will be like last season. The overall story arc is amazing with some uninteresting episodes sprinkled throughout. Some of the individual stories are awesome while some are uninteresting.

I’m definitely going to keep watching as the new story arcs are just starting I just hope they go some place interesting.

The Wonder Twins and Flyboy’s arcs need to pick up and get going or make room for the others.

I really hope Flyboy becomes a bad guy.

I’m hoping that the Wonder Twins arc goes the direction the Alchemist mentioned about people with powers so dangerous that even if they are good people they still have to be put down and she turns out to be one of those. Although I hope the story doesn’t turn into them just running, from the law or the company, the entire season.

Rumor is it accelerates when she kills Lou Dobbs through the television transmission while watching his “How the Illegal Aliens Stole Christmas Special” soon after crossing the border.

They won’t be thrilled with it if the ratings drop. And if the show continues to suck, ratings will drop because the American public demands only the very best quality from it’s television programing . . .

Oh.

Yeah.

Nevermind.

Ah! Thank you.
Hmmm. I seem to recall he had the tables turned on him and got beat up in that role, too. Type casting!

I agree with you all about the lack of forward motion on most of these story lines. I don’t think there is any major conflict going on, that’s why it’s stuck in neutral. The conflict with Sylar was what moved it forward at the end of last season. We need some new conflict here, not just Claire’s desparate fight with being normal, or Parkman’s raging battle with Molly’s nightmare, or Peter’s all-out-war with memory. Sigh, these are special people with some extra mundane problems (why doesn’t extraordinary mean the same as extra mundane?).

My real question is what’s up with Mica’s hair? Jerry curl? Naturally shiny? Weird.

I don’t get why there’ still confusion regarding who killed Sulu. He went over the side of the building with someone who could not be seen after the fall, and later Mama P was laid low by an unseen attacker.

It’s Claude.

I also don’t think it’s a matter of network squeamishness about Sylar. He doesn’t have his telekinesis power anymore, so how’s he going to can-opener a head? The actress who played Candace is now on Reaper, so they needed to dispose of the character quickly.

The only confusing part is why they hell does everything in New York happen in Isaac’s apartment? Did they blow their custom set-design budget on that and now the producer’s trying to milk it for all it’s worth?

This week’s episode was slow, slow, slow. They shouldn’t have any doubts about going a full season, so there’s no reason to stretch things out.

Unless of course they stretched things out last season only because they didn’t know how not to, rather than because they had to stretch the main story arc out to a full season.

And when are we getting the backstory on the last four months to let us know how they got here from there?

Well, no, because they can cast literally anyone in the role because of her illusion-casting. “Huh? Oh yeah, I just felt like looking like John Goodman today.”

The confusing part of that for me is why after the major refurbishing the space got there are still crates full of Isaac’s belongings in it.

Uh Oh. the Wikipedia page on Heroes has some bad news:

In other words, the dullness is part of the master plan. Ecch.

Because one is a word in which the prefix “extra-” means “beyond”, and the other is an awkward phrase in which the word “extra” means “extremely”.

“Extraordinary” would mean the same as “extramundane” if the latter word existed; the phrase “extra ordinary”, should one choose to make use of it, would mean the same as “extra mundane”.

How about, “these are special people with some quite mundane problems”?

So far we’ve had three episodes, and the twins have contrived to be separated each time, with predictable results. If they really do use the same formula in every episode, eventually we’ll come to look forward to it, to want it, to need it in some sick way that we don’t want to think about.

But it really does seem like network-tv wimpery that, if the brother gets to the sister in time, the people who looked really dead, unconscious and bleeding from their eyes, are apparently okey-dokey.

Holy crap- so THAT’S where I’ve seen the hot blonde in Reaper before. She’s much nicer now.

I’m growing increasingly bored with Heroes this season. Last season was good, but had a definite “we’re makin’ this up as we go along” vibe to it. This season, it just feels like they don’t know what the heck they’re going to do with all these characters they couldn’t bring themselves to kill off last season. I’ll keep watching, of course… but I’m not enjoying it, dammit!

I really want to know why they felt the need to make Kensei be an annoying English doofus.

Most irritating to me is even though he’s been dead for months I still hear the song “Well you know my name is Isaac/and the things I draw come true…” everytime they show his apartment.

Bastard.

I am fed up with Heroes. I am also fed up with Prison Break (Yes, that thread got my rant also.)

You can’t Make Peter the new Sylar, and Sylar become the new Peter. It doesn’t work like that.

I mean, what’s the point in switching ‘profiles’ around? If Peter has all power, but doesnt know who he is, he will have to reinvent himself. ((e.g. ‘Gabriel’.))

As in Prison Break, so it is here, Recycling the plot for a second time, doesnt work. Prison Break THANKFULLY had two good seasons. I don’t about Heroes.

What is Hiro still doing in Japan?! Did the paper in the sword/katana get explained?

Why did we need to bring Niki and Company back into all of this!?

Can we go a little bit faster with the “wonder twins” please? Just a little bit?

I doubt NBC has anywhere to go with this season. After the Artifically shell game the Heroes abillity’s and Witness protection, and Amnesia, it will become clear.

I doubt that ‘Smallville’ ((Claires new bf?)) is the killer, he has the tracking device. … Thanks to HRG. ((I wonder if NBC reads us?))

I don’t know what to make of the show now.
What’s the plot again?

Well, American Gladiators is a mid season fill in… :dubious:
