Heroes 10/1/07 - "Lizards" (SPOILERS)

That wasn’t his own image.

It was clear that he faked it.

Either that or he knew it was coming, so he could have plausible deniability.

You mean the “Cane” that features a sister who married her adoptive brother, who is in quite a bit of danger?

No, he clearly sent the Haitian to where Bennett was hiding. And he couldn’t have had the memory of doing that removed, or he would not have been able to call Bennett and have the conversation they did.

Yes, yes it was:

“Nathan, who was so in control and determined as a political candidate last year, has seemingly lost it all and has no goals. He drinks alone in a bar and is haunted by a disfigured version of himself. Who is this vision and what is the symbolism behind his horrible disfigurement?”

This is probably going to end the same way Zach (and then an “unnamed major character”) would turn out to be gay.

The creators of Heroes say a lot of things, but almost none of them turn out to be true. I think they’re going to start contradicting the online comic any day now.

I thought that Noah Bennett said that all of Isaac’s pictures came true with the exception of a series of 8. Although that doesn’t really seem to make much sense to me now. I’m going to blame it on my cold.

Who? What? Huh?

I took that to mean that all of the paintings had come true except the 8, until now…

Random comment I have to make about last week’s episode. The “last week on Heroes” segment reminded me.

Parkman’s detective test consisted of having 2 unarmed people surrender to him, and the test for him was to decide which of these non-threatning, surrending people to execute on the spot by using his detective skills to read their body language.

Completely plausible.

In other nitpicking, I’d enjoy this show much more if they never said the words “evolved” or “evolution”, because the way they use them is just silly. I’d rather have magic pixie dust making everyone special. But it makes me wince when they reference it as some natural part of the evolutionary process.

In regards to Claire’s pain at cutting off her toe - perhaps it’s partly psychological. Pinch my arm, and it won’t really bother me. Stick a needle in it, though, and give me the exact same level of pain, and suddenly I’ll be intensely uncomfortable. Maybe it was something like that - the psychological anticiptation of cutting off your toe made the pain worse.

Continuing nitpicking- is Japanese such a frozen language that Hiro can easily communicate in 1600? If I went back to America/England in 1600, the “olden language” and the accents (very strong back then) would throw me off.

Next of all, it is the same Haitian? If so, how? In not, do all Haitiins get the same power?

The “Twins” story is booooooring. D-U-L-L.* Dull.*

Well, did his expoding Manhattan come true or not? That’s a temporal argument that goes in circles.

Would it be tricky for you to communicate? Yeah, but you could still do it. I don’t know a lot about language, but AFAIK, the main vowel sounds were the same then as they are now, which is one of the bigger problems when going to middle or old English, I think. The vocabulary might throw you for a loop, because they would probably use slang that you’ve never heard of, but I still think you could communicate.

And, if I had to guess, merely given Japan’s tendency to be more traditional and so forth, I’d guess they’re language had less change than English in 400 years.

That irks me too. While I’m certainly not well schooled on evolution/mutations, I’m pretty sure that the ability to have fire sprout from the fingertips or the ability to pass through solid objects or fly without wings/bone structure to do so aren’t generally projected for the future of human “evolution”.

Of course, evolution is only a theory, so who knows.

As for Japan in 1600, he also communicates with an Englishman from that era. We can read Shakespeare and court records of Elizabeth and have more than a general idea of what’s being talked about, though there’d definitely be some miscommunications.

AHHH!!!

That phrase bugs me more than magic fireball shooting evolution on a TV show.

Evolution is “only a theory” in the same way that scientists talking about “the theory of gravity” means that “gravity is only a theory”.

Hey, I have a totally irrelevant-in-the-scheme-of-things question, inspired by knowledge I gleaned here at the Dope. My understanding is that Irish people writhe in agony when they hear us Yanks pronounce Caitlin “Kate-Lynn.” So it really jumped out at me when the ostensibly Irish gal referred to herself that way - shouldn’t she have said something more like “Kathleen?”

Oh, and Green Bean, I too have been humming the Maya and Miguel theme song when thinking about this show.

Yep, it was the same Haitian. not sure at what point Mohinder realized that?

I clocked my little toe on the ottoperson last night and started to wonder about what the biology/chemistry/evolution teacher said. If I really don’t need the toe for balance, snipping it off might be less painful than the purple lump I have going.

La Llorona

I just finished watching online. Good episode.

I think it would have been a good twist if Mr. Muggles would have snagged the toe in mid-air (and slow motion), thus putting more pressure on Claire to sprout a fresh one!
