In order for him to search some sort of database, a large chunk of the population would have to have their entire mapped genetic structure on file, right? I mean, there’s nothing even remotely like that in the real world, is there?
Having identified which parts of the genome grant powers, Chandra may have figured out how to identify super traits by recognizing other defining characteristics–they’re all left-handed diabetics with a predisposition to early male pattern baldness, or something like that. He wouldn’t necessarily have to have a DNA sample from each of the people he identified, and not having those samples would help to explain why he had identified so few of the supers, since they’re all around us.
It makes me think that this was some kind of experiment, that something was done intentionally to trigger the DNA change in select individuals,. It was done at birth, and the ones who were part of the experiment were tatooed (maybe with some kind of special ink which would only become active when their powers did). Their kids also have the powers because the genes were passed on, but they don’t have the tatoos. (Haven’t noticed one on Claire or Micha.)
Papa Suresh found out about the experiment but not where the individuals were located. Through his investigations, he located a fair number of them and spent his life trying to figure out what the experiment changed about their chemistry.
The interaction between Ted and Matt makes me think the tattoos are new. The fact that Jessica has one (while Niki does not…) says to me that they develop over time as people use their powers. Ted & Matt are newbie supers, so they just have a couple little lines. Other people have the whole insignia.
I don’t believe in the last episode, the cops were still in the diner. If they knew that Hiro was supposed to be around for questioning and Ando was still there, wouldn’t they be bothering him to find his friend, or, more likely, thinking that he’s a suspect who’s fled the scene of the crime.
Instead, Ando is just sitting around drinking coffee and talking to Peter.
Do you know how many stories would come to a halt if people made their password “rain25door” instead of their birthday/anniversary/loved ones name/etc.?
No. The human genome project is one person’s DNA and it cost billions of dollars IIRC. The X-prize people are currently offering a million dollars to any group that can completely sequence the DNA of 100 people in a week, which still has to bring the test down to the thousand-dollar range to be worthwhile – and they estimate that’s 5 to 7 years away.
It seemed to me like Eden has some resistance to using her power at all. All that stuff like “don’t make me do this” and such… That’s why I think she didn’t use them on Mr. Bennett.
Heh… when Peter was teasing his brother by saying “let’s go flying”, all I could think was that’s like the dumbest thing for someone who mimics powers to do, especially if you don’t know how long your power mimicry lasts.
Just three thoughts before moving to the latest episode’s thread…
1.) How could they misspell Grants Pass, OR?
2.) Based on how protective Mr. Bennet is being with Claire, saving her saved the world from an unfortunate episode stemming from his attepts at retribution on Sylar.
